Executive producer Ben Wadey has teased the impact of Ronni Ancona’s arrival in EastEnders.
A popular comedian will be appearing in the BBC One soap opera early next year, as part of a story involving the well-loved character Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright.
During a recent press event discussing the soap opera’s holiday episodes, Wadey hinted at future storylines for 2026, revealing that actress Ancona will be joining the cast as a new character named Bea.
Wadey shared his excitement about Ronni Ancona joining the show, saying he’s a big admirer of her work and believes she’ll bring a really distinctive style to it.
What really drew me to this project was the idea of blending tragedy and comedy in the story. It centers around a character named Bea, who happens to be an old friend of Linda’s – someone from their past, really.
When Bea appears, her recollection of Linda sharply contrasts with how Linda remembers herself.
Let me tell you, Bea isn’t content with just spinning tales about Linda. She pulls Billy and Honey Mitchell right into her whirlwind of drama, and honestly, it’s fantastic to watch. She’s creating storylines with them, not just about them, and it really complicates things – in the best way.

Wadey explained that Bea is a character who tends to form close bonds with others. She’ll be reconnecting with Linda, and her arrival will also significantly impact other characters. We’ll see a lot more of Billy and Honey in the new year, as they become central to this storyline as well.
Honestly, as a team, we just adore this story. Every time we revisit it – whether we’re reading the script or watching the footage – it genuinely moves us. It’s the kind of film that makes us laugh one minute and then tear up the next – it’s a really joyful experience.
Will there be trouble in the only stable Mitchell marriage in Walford?
