This highly acclaimed film, considered by many to be one of the greatest horror movies ever made – and simply one of the best films overall – quickly climbed to number 5 on FlixPatrol’s Top 10 streaming chart for Prime Video, just two days after its release. It surpassed popular favorites like Die Hard, It’s A Wonderful Life, and Candy Cane Lane, and its popularity continues to grow.
Ryan Coogler, the director behind hits like Black Panther and Creed, released Sinners in theaters this April to widespread praise. The film quickly earned a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received overwhelmingly positive reviews, including many 5-star ratings on Letterboxd. One critic gave it 4.5 stars, calling it “impeccably paced” and praising Coogler as a “generational talent” with a compelling artistic vision. Sinners became available on Prime Video on December 26th.
Sinners Deserves Its Spot At The Top

Most viewers and critics agree that Sinners is a groundbreaking film, successfully mixing gothic horror, crime drama, and a coming-of-age story. Director Ryan Coogler infuses it with his distinctive vision of American life and his southern upbringing. The film beautifully blends myth and reality, focusing on communities often only shown through hardship. It feels both familiar and enduringly relevant. As the Another Look podcast put it, the film explores how trying to fit in can damage community bonds, while music offers a powerful escape. Ultimately, it’s a story about protecting what you cherish and sharing it with loved ones – a stylish, atmospheric, and emotionally charged musical set against a backdrop of generational struggles.
Most movies have at least a few flaws, but Sinners is a rare exception (though it would have been great to see more of the Native American vampire hunters!). It beautifully tells a story about how art can be a form of protest, and highlights the value of family and belonging, while also making you think about whether the connections we have help or harm us. Because of all this, it truly deserves to continue rising in popularity on streaming platforms and hopefully reach the top spot.
