Good news for Doctor Who fans! The series has released a special new adventure starring Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor. This short story focuses on a strange mystery: the disappearance of an entire Wednesday! It’s part of a new series of Doctor Who stories, and it’s available to download for free today only.
Big Finish’s Doctor Who – Short Trips audiobooks are becoming increasingly popular. All the recent Doctors – Matt Smith, David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, and Peter Capaldi – have had their adventures continued in this series, and now it’s the thirteenth Doctor’s turn to join them.
Doctor Who: Short Trips: The Wednesday That Wasn’t Is A Fan’s Dream (Literally)
The fourteenth installment of the Doctor Who – Short Trips series introduces “The Galactic Lost Property Office,” a cosmic storage facility for lost items. However, instead of everyday objects like a scarf or umbrella, someone has turned in something extraordinary: an entire missing Wednesday.
The Thirteenth Doctor arrives, explaining she was previously protecting Wednesday but someone accidentally erased it from existence. Now it’s reappeared and is a threat, and a group of people are already trying to claim it as their own.
“The Wednesday That Wasn’t” is a new audiobook and the winning story from the Paul Spragg Memorial Writers’ Opportunity, created to honor the late producer Paul Spragg. This year’s winner, Luke Hollands, wrote the story featuring the Thirteenth Doctor after a personal experience – losing his wedding ring. The story will be released alongside the new audio series, The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures, which stars Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill reprising their roles as the Doctor and Yasmin Khan.
According to writer Maxine Hollands, the Thirteenth Doctor is simply “brilliant.” In a recent interview, she explained that the character’s strength and clear personality make her a joy to write for, as you always know how she’ll respond. Hollands described the Doctor as unfiltered, decisive, and full of instinctive energy, qualities that make her feel authentic, fun, and perfectly suited to this particular story.
I’ve been a huge fan of Big Finish audios for years! They’ve been making incredible Doctor Who adventures since 1999, and it’s amazing that so many of the Doctors – Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Jo Martin, David Bradley, and even John Hurt – have been involved. I especially love their Short Trips series. It’s like getting quick, fantastic stories written by some of the best Doctor Who writers – people who’ve worked on the show, in books, comics, and audio dramas – and they’re often read by my favorite actors from Big Finish! It’s a really special way to enjoy more adventures.
