As a huge Stranger Things fan, I’m really excited about the upcoming spinoff! It looks like it’s finally going to tackle one of the biggest questions left hanging after the finale: Vecna’s backstory. Remember how it turned out the Mind Flayer was always the real mastermind of the Upside Down and the Abyss? Well, Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, was just one of the creatures the Mind Flayer controlled – basically a puppet. The spinoff should give us some answers about how all that happened.

A live-action spinoff of Stranger Things is also in the works. Though it won’t include any characters we already know, the show’s ending hinted at its story through the origins of Henry Creel and the Mind Flayer. Young Henry discovered a strange rock in a cave – a rock originating from The Abyss, the Mind Flayer’s home world – which allowed the monster to control him. According to Matt Duffer, who spoke with Variety, the spinoff will explore the history of this rock, describing it as a key element of the new series.
