The first season of Pluribus has finished airing on Apple TV, and viewers are already anticipating what happens next with Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn). She’s one of only thirteen people unaffected by a strange virus that causes worldwide peace and happiness by connecting everyone to a single hive mind. Throughout the season, Carol encounters fascinating individuals, including Zosia (Karolina Wydra), who acts as her guide within the hive mind, and fellow survivor Manousos Oviedo (Carlos-Manuel Vesga). While Pluribus Season 1 unfolds at a deliberate pace, Vince Gilligan’s latest show is a compelling and insightful science fiction story that also deeply explores its characters. The season ends with many unanswered questions, making fans eagerly await Season 2.
As a huge fan of Pluribus, I’m already counting down the days until Season 2 hits Apple TV! It’s going to be about two years, and honestly, my mind is already racing with questions. There are five things in particular I think everyone will be obsessing over until then.
5) What Makes the 13 Survivors Immune?

The show Pluribus quickly reveals that only 13 people worldwide haven’t been affected by the virus, but the reason for their immunity remains a mystery. Characters like Carol, Manousos, Koumba Diabaté, and Laxmi might have a special characteristic that protects them, or their survival could simply be a matter of chance. Whatever the cause, the show’s reluctance to explain their resistance creates a compelling setup for further exploration of the virus in future seasons.
I’m really curious about what most of the survivors have been doing since the middle of Season 1. We know Carol and Manousos are teaming up to try and undo the Joining, and it looks like Koumba is still living his best life, enjoying his fantasy world. Plus, Kusimayu decided to join them! But what about everyone else? I’m eager to see if they’ll show up and lend a hand to Carol and Manousos when things really heat up.
4) What Does Carol Plan to Do With an Atom Bomb?

The first season of Pluribus ended with a shocking twist: Carol returns to Albuquerque claiming she has an atom bomb in a large box. The episode cuts before she can explain what she intends to do with it, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. If the box truly contains a nuclear weapon, it’s likely meant to protect Carol from the Others, who might go to extreme lengths to get her stem cells – which they can access through her frozen eggs. This also cleverly references an earlier offer from the hive to provide Carol with a bomb if she requested it, significantly raising the tension for the upcoming season.
3) What Is the Joining’s True Purpose?

The show Pluribus slowly uncovers the details surrounding the strange phenomenon known as the Joining, but many key mysteries remain. This infectious “happy virus” originated from an alien radio signal, spread from rats to people, and escaped from a lab, ultimately causing widespread chaos during the Joining. The series repeatedly highlights the hive mind’s strong drive to infect everyone. However, it’s unclear if the Joining has a larger purpose beyond simply surviving as a parasite. While the aliens who sent the original signal haven’t appeared in Season 1, viewers can likely anticipate learning more about the Joining’s beginnings and ultimate goal in future seasons.
2) Who Is the Real Zosia?

Zosia’s first appearance in the second episode of Pluribus is quite striking: she’s shown cleaning up after the devastation caused by the Joining, and she’s located in Morocco. We don’t know much about the original Zosia, but after she contracted the alien virus, the hive chose her to join Carol, apparently because she physically resembled the female lead, Raban, from the writer’s novel, Winds of Wycaro. As Carol talks with Zosia, she learns bits and pieces about her past, including that she grew up in Poland, enjoyed mango ice cream, and had a partner who died.
Zosia presents a friendly and charming exterior, but there’s a much deeper, hidden personality underneath, one that the virus hasn’t revealed yet. If the story goes in the direction of freeing Zosia from the hive mind and letting her true self emerge, it will be incredibly interesting to learn about her past. This change would also significantly affect her relationship with Carol, who has romantic feelings for her. Zosia is already the most compelling supporting character, and her story has a lot of potential to be truly captivating.
1) Can the Joining Be Reversed?

A central mystery in the first season of Pluribus revolves around finding a way to undo the Joining. Carol quickly focuses on liberating Earth, even directly questioning Zosia about how to reverse the process, but doesn’t get a response. Later, Manousos discovers that experimenting with radio waves can interfere with the alien signal. However, in the season finale, this interference only causes the Others to react violently, similar to their initial infection symptoms.
I’m really invested in Pluribus, and honestly, it’s frustrating that no one seems to know how to fix the forced happiness on Earth! We’ve gotten some hints, but no real answers yet. Thankfully, I’m optimistic because of the alliance between Carol and Manousos – I think they’re going to be the ones to figure it out. I’m hoping that by Season 2, or sometime later, we’ll finally get some serious exploration of the Joining and, most importantly, learn how to stop it.
