It’s already been a fantastic January for streaming! We’ve seen some excellent movies and consistently good weekly TV shows. But this week looks to be the best yet, with new installments from both Star Trek and Game of Thrones, plus a new movie starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck together again.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy – January 15 (Paramount+)
A new series set in the world of Star Trek arrives this week! Starfleet Academy continues the story from Star Trek: Discovery, focusing on the rebuilt Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century. The show will feature both new faces and returning characters, including the Doctor, played by Robert Picardo, who fans will remember from Star Trek: Voyager. To watch, you’ll need a subscription to Paramount+.

Ponies – January 15 (Peacock)
The 1970s-set series Ponies, streaming on Peacock, follows the wives of two deceased CIA agents. Haley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke play these women who, believing their anonymity makes them ideal, decide to continue their husbands’ secret work as spies.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials – January 15 (Netflix)
Most people recognize Agatha Christie’s famous detectives like Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, but Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent is less well-known. She’s the central detective in two of Christie’s books, and one of them is being turned into a Netflix series this week. Mia McKenna-Bruce will play Brent in the series, which is written by Chris Chibnall, the creator of the popular show Broadchurch.

The Rip – January 16 (Netflix)
Whenever Ben Affleck and Matt Damon collaborate, the result is usually excellent, and with a director like Joe Carnahan involved, things look even more promising. Their new film, The Rip, features the pair as members of a Miami police team who discover a large sum of money and decide to keep it. Predictably, this leads to suspicion and backstabbing, both among the officers and from those who learn about the stolen cash.

Phineas and Ferb Season 5 January 17 (Disney+)
If you have Disney+, you can still enjoy the last few days of summer with Phineas and Ferb! They’re back for more vacation adventures, coming up with fun ways to spend their time while their pet platypus secretly fights the villainous Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Season 4 was a hit, and they’re ready for more!

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms – January 18 (HBO Max)
Even though Game of Thrones has ended, HBO is keeping its world alive with new shows. This week, the second prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, arrives on HBO and Max, following the exciting journeys of a knight and his apprentice as they travel across Westeros and strive for greatness.
