If there’s one character that is sure to get under your skin in Tell Me Lies, it’s Stephen DeMarco.
Honestly, this character has been a total whirlwind of trouble from the very beginning. They’re at the center of everything – scandal, secrets, and this incredibly intricate plan to get back at Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten), who they have a really complicated on-again, off-again relationship with. It’s been brewing since season one, and it’s fascinating – and a little scary – to watch it all unfold.
The latest season of Tell Me Lies is here, with the first two episodes now available. While fans might have wished for Stephen to return as a changed man, it appears that’s not happening anytime soon.
Stephen returns to Baird College and appears to have patched things up with Lucy, but their happiness doesn’t last. He soon falls back into his old patterns of behavior.
From the beginning of the show, it’s been clear that Stephen had a difficult upbringing. Interestingly, Jackson White’s actual mother, Katey Sagal, played the role of Stephen’s self-centered mother, Nora.

This season really lets you understand the root of his issues, showing how being abandoned and feeling alone as a child affects all his relationships at school. It offers a deeper look into his background. Plus, it’s fantastic because the show features a lot of different characters and storylines, giving you a little bit of everything.
The 2015 storyline ended with a major reveal in the season 3 finale. Stephen sent a voice recording he’d kept since 2008, exposing that Lucy and Evan (Branden Cook) had a secret relationship and hadn’t shared it with anyone.
Stephen sent the voice note specifically to Evan’s fiancée, Bree (Catherine Missal), on her wedding day, but it didn’t seem to upset her as much as expected.
Despite everything, Stephen’s goal remains the same: he’s determined to get revenge, no matter the cost.
He explained that his role is all about trying to portray genuine human emotions, which is what makes the show enjoyable for the cast. Despite the often ridiculous and intense situations, they focus on bringing humanity to their characters and understanding them, even when their actions are wrong. He finds the challenge – and the costumes – to be a lot of fun, allowing them to really step into someone else’s shoes and feel what they might be going through.
Season 3 of Tell Me Lies picks up with Lucy and Stephen trying to make their complicated relationship work again as they return to Baird College. Despite hoping for a fresh start, old mistakes continue to cause problems, and Lucy unexpectedly becomes caught up in a scandal she didn’t ask for.
The fallout from last year’s events continues to affect Lucy and Stephen’s friends, forcing them to confront their own harmful habits. With shocking secrets spreading across campus, serious trouble looms for Lucy and everyone close to her.
