Fans are eagerly awaiting Dune: Part Three, set to be a major movie release in 2026 and the final chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s epic trilogy. A highlight for many will be the return of Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho. This time around, the experience was particularly special for Momoa, as his son, Nakoa-Wolf, joined the cast in an important role. Jason Momoa recently shared why working alongside his son was surprisingly stressful.
The next Dune movie will feature Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, the son of Paul Atreides and Chani. His father, Jason Momoa, is very proud of him and has stressed that Nakoa earned the role through his own talent. Jason recently talked about working with his son on the film during an interview on Today (available on YouTube). He admitted that having his son on set made him a little nervous while filming the science fiction movie.
It’s incredibly scary, but in a proud way – he’s my son! I wasn’t keen on him becoming an actor, but he pursued it himself. And he’s fantastic – he really nailed it.
It appears Jason Momoa was worried about both his son’s safety and how he would do on set. It’s natural for parents to be concerned for their children, and it must have been especially challenging for Momoa to juggle that with filming his first movie. Momoa has said his son, Nakoa-Wolf, did a fantastic job, and this isn’t the first time he’s publicly complimented his son’s acting while also admitting he had some initial concerns about the decision.

Timothée Chalamet was upset about having to cut his hair for the upcoming Dune: Part Three. He described feeling like his hair had been ‘stolen’ due to the necessary change for the role.
Last summer, Jason Momoa shared that he initially discouraged his son from pursuing acting, repeatedly telling him he didn’t want him to work in the industry. However, his son, Nakoa-Wolf, eventually earned a role in Dune 3. It started when Nakoa-Wolf asked to observe his dad filming and learn about acting. Having some prior acting experience and already being skilled in martial arts, he persuaded Jason to help him create an audition tape for a small part. A producer friend then convinced Jason to let Nakoa-Wolf audition for the role of Leto II, which he successfully landed, making his father very proud.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what Nakoa-Wolf Momoa brings to the role, and I’m also thrilled to have his father back as Idaho. Jason had hinted at his return for a while, officially confirming it in early 2025. Soon after, Momoa playfully and reluctantly shaved his beard before starting filming, which made the whole thing feel even more official.

Filming for Denis Villeneuve’s third Dune movie finished in 2025, and everyone involved celebrated. The film is based on Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune: Messiah, and will conclude Villeneuve’s Dune film series. It’s perfect that Jason and Lisa Momoa are both in this one, and I hope promoting it is a better experience for Jason than the last time around.
Okay, folks, mark your calendars! Dune: Part Three hits theaters December 18th, and trust me, you won’t want to miss it. But if you need to catch up – or just want to relive the magic – now’s the perfect time to fire up HBO Max. You can watch the first two Dune films and also check out the new prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, to get fully immersed in Arrakis before the big finale.
