I was really surprised when Gege Akutami announced a sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen so soon after the original story ended! It’s called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and Yuji Iwasaki is doing the art. It started in Weekly Shonen Jump as a shorter series, planned to run for about six months. From what I understand, it’s only going to be three volumes long and it’s already heading towards the finale – they’re currently showing two big battles. The story jumps forward 68 years after the Culling Game, and it follows a whole new cast of characters dealing with what seems to be the biggest threat the Jujutsu world has faced since Ryomen Sukuna. The first volume came out on January 5th, 2026, and it had a huge debut, selling over 190,000 copies in just the first week – one of the biggest launches Shonen Jump has ever seen!
I’ve been following the release of this volume, and it’s already doing incredibly well in Japan. I expect those numbers to jump even higher once it’s available internationally. While there’s no official word yet on when an English version will come out, most people are predicting it’ll be in the next few months. Given how popular the sequel series is becoming, and how that popularity is still growing, I think an anime adaptation is almost certain to happen.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Might Release an Anime After The Main Story Is Fully Adapted
MAPPA hasn’t finished adapting the main story yet, so an anime version of Modulo is likely still a ways off. The current third season is covering the Culling Game Arc in two parts, and it will probably take two to four years to finish with the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. Even though the Modulo story is quite short, an anime adaptation would likely be very popular following the manga’s impressive launch.
While another studio might revive the story later, there are no guarantees right now. The series is expected to conclude in the next two to three months, which will be disappointing for many fans. Since the sequel began, viewers have consistently praised the show for its fresh and unique take on the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. The introduction of the Simurians, an alien race, was a surprising twist, but fans have embraced it thanks to the author’s skillful storytelling.
The follow-up to Jujutsu Kaisen lets Gege expand on the series’ world and show what happens after the big final fight. We learn what becomes of the main characters, including the difficult path Yuji Itadori must face. Given how popular Jujutsu Kaisen is, it’s likely we’ll see an anime adaptation, and because the manga isn’t very long, it should all fit into a single season.
