The new thriller Crime 101 hits theaters this week and boasts a star-studded cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte. Notably, the film also reunites Hemsworth with Mark Ruffalo – best known as the Hulk and a frequent co-star in the Avengers movies and Thor: Ragnarok. This marks their latest on-screen pairing, continuing a pattern of their characters being rivals, but with much bigger consequences than their Marvel conflicts.
In the movie Crime 101, Chris Hemsworth plays a tricky jewel thief pursued by a determined detective, Mark Ruffalo. This is a change from their previous roles as teammates in the Marvel films. We recently spoke with Hemsworth about working with Ruffalo so often and how their on-screen chemistry has grown. He liked the idea that they’ve become “cinematic frenemies” throughout their projects together.
Chris Hemsworth Details On-Screen Rivalry With Mark Ruffalo
Hemsworth explained that the connection between the two characters in the film comes from their different backgrounds and a genuine respect for each other. They share a strong friendship built on mutual compassion and understanding, and both grapple with similar doubts and insecurities. There’s a playful energy to their approach to new ideas, and they aren’t afraid to show vulnerability, which Hemsworth believes is clearly visible in their performances.
He explained that even though the characters didn’t share many scenes, it was important for their relationship to feel genuine and based on natural trust and companionship, and he believes they achieved that.
I was so fascinated to hear what Halle Berry, Chris Hemsworth’s co-star, thought! She perfectly captured what I felt while watching their movie – even though they said they weren’t a couple, their connection felt so strong, like they were linked by something unseen. It really came across on screen!
Marvel fans already know what Chris Pratt and Tom Holland are capable of from their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but their new film, Crime 101, promises something different. Based on Don Winslow’s popular story, the movie is written and directed by Bart Layton and hits theaters this Friday.
