James Van der Beek has passed away at 48 years old. TMZ broke the news.
James Van Der Beek became famous for starring as the main character in the popular TV show Dawson’s Creek. He’s also been in many other television shows and movies.
The family announced James David Van Der Beek’s passing on Instagram. Their post shared a photo of the actor and stated that he died peacefully this morning, facing his final days with courage, faith, and grace. They indicated they will share more about his wishes and values later, but currently request privacy as they mourn the loss of their husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Actor Joshua Jackson, known for his role in Dawson’s Creek, revealed in 2024 that he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2023. He shared that he had been privately undergoing treatment with the support of his family and expressed optimism about his recovery, stating he was feeling good.
The stars of the popular drama series got together for a charity event in September, but unfortunately, Van Der Beek couldn’t attend because he was sick.
James Van Der Beek was born on March 8, 1977, in Cheshire, Connecticut. From a young age, he dreamed of becoming an actor. At 15, he asked his mother to take him to New York City to find representation and pursue a career in theater. He made his professional stage debut in 1993, at age 16, in the New York premiere of Edward Albee’s play, Finding the Sun, with the Signature Theatre Company.
He attended Drew University briefly, but dropped out when Dawson’s Creek started production.
In early 1997, Van der Beek transitioned to television, auditioning for several pilot programs. He landed the starring role in Dawson’s Creek on The WB, which quickly made him a well-known and popular television actor.
