Alongside the talk about a possible remake of God of War, there were also rumors of a new 2.5D platformer starring a younger Kratos. Surprisingly, that game, God of War: Sons of Sparta, actually exists – although it’s more of a traditional 2D game. It was developed by Mega Cat Studios, known for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit, and was released unexpectedly recently.
This game features a young Kratos, still a boy, voiced by TC Carson. He’s training with his brother, Deimos, and fighting enemies using a shield, spear, and powerful artifacts known as the Gifts of Olympus. The story, written by the team behind the recent Norse games, will introduce new creatures and explore lesser-known parts of Greek mythology.
God of War Sons of Sparta is now available on PS5 for $29.99 as a digital download from the PlayStation Store. For $39.99, you can get the Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes extra in-game items like the Arrow of Virtue Spear Attachment, the Unstable Gemstone Belt Attachment, and a Rusty Scrap for weapon upgrades. It also comes with Blood Orbs to spend in the game, plus a digital artbook, soundtrack, and PSN avatars.
