2K Games Is Delisting Two Games Forever Very Soon

2K Games is removing two of its games from sale soon, and will completely shut them down later this year. It’s becoming common for publishers like Electronic Arts, Sega, and Capcom to remove games each year for various reasons. 2K is now joining them, but players will still have a chance to buy the games before they disappear.

This week, 2K Games announced that two of its sports games, WWE 2K Battlegrounds and NBA 2K Playgrounds 2, will no longer be available for purchase digitally at the end of the month. WWE 2K Battlegrounds, released in 2020, was a fast-paced, arcade-style wrestling game with a wide range of WWE characters. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 offered a similar arcade experience, letting players use current NBA stars and legendary players. Although neither game was a huge hit with players, 2K has decided to remove them from online stores on Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, and PC starting February 26th.

These 2K Games Will Shut Down Completely in 2026

Beyond removing WWE 2K Battlegrounds and NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 from stores, making them impossible to buy, 2K is also closing the online servers for both games. This won’t happen immediately, though; the servers will go offline on July 9th. If you purchase either game before then, you’ll still be able to play it for a few months.

2K didn’t explain exactly why they’re removing WWE 2K Battlegrounds and NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 from online stores and shutting down their servers. However, it’s probably because not enough people were playing them. Maintaining online services costs money, and 2K likely decided it wasn’t worth it to keep paying for games with small player bases. Even after the servers are shut down, you’ll still be able to play both games in single-player or local multiplayer modes.
