5 Things We Want to See in Avengers: Secret Wars From the Comics

Following this year’s blockbuster Marvel film, Avengers: Doomsday, the stage is being set for the 2027 release of Avengers: Secret Wars. While the exact path remains unclear, it’s expected that a series of catastrophic events called Incursions will effectively end the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, paving the way for Doctor Doom to take control. Fans of the Marvel comics already know the story: the Incursions wiped out all versions of Earth, but Doctor Doom managed to save one by harnessing the power of the Beyonders and the Molecule Man, creating a unified world called Battleworld.

Although the movie probably won’t follow this exactly, we’re hoping to see many elements from the Avengers: Secret Wars comic book incorporated into the next film.

5) Sheriff Strange with God Emperor Doctor Doom

What I loved most about Battleworld was how Doom turned all the heroes into different versions of themselves, ones that helped him rule. Doctor Strange as Sheriff Strange was brilliant – Doom needed someone sharp to watch for anything strange happening, and Strange definitely fit the bill. But honestly, Doom messed up by picking someone so clever; Strange was smart enough to realize things weren’t right with the whole situation.

While it’s currently unknown what role Doctor Strange will play in Avengers: Doomsday, he’s confirmed to return in Avengers: Secret Wars as the sheriff, working alongside Doctor Doom to enforce order and punish those who misbehave. He also played a key role in starting the final conflict by helping the remaining survivors from Earth-616 access Battleworld.

4) Marvel Zombies

Battleworld, created by Doom, contained many strange areas, including one overrun by heroes and villains from the Marvel Zombies universe. This zone served as a kind of exile for those who defied Doom or challenged his vision of order. Given the recent success of the Marvel Zombies series on Disney+, these characters should definitely appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.

This might be a subtle nod to the comic books, simply showing where heroes could end up after being defeated. But even as a digital effect, seeing that imagery would be amazing. The Marvel Zombies comics featured a battle with Ultron robots from Age of Ultron, though that storyline is likely too ambitious for the Avengers: Secret Wars movie.

3) Miles Morales

The last installment of the Spider-Verse animated films is coming out before Avengers: Secret Wars, which strongly suggests Miles Morales might cross over into the Secret Wars universe. This would mirror a key storyline from the Marvel comics, where Miles survived a catastrophic event and wasn’t one of the heroes duplicated by Doctor Doom in his alternate world.

Miles Morales’s kindness deeply affected Molecule Man, who then created a new life for Miles and his family on Earth-616. The upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars provides an ideal opportunity to introduce Miles into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and could bring a unique and revitalizing direction to Spider-Man stories after the events of Secret Wars.

2) Valeria Richards

The Fantastic Four have a young son named Franklin Richards. A scene after the credits of the movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps hinted that Doctor Doom encountered Franklin, and many believe the Fantastic Four will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to prevent disasters called Incursions and find Franklin, who Doom may have kidnapped to exploit his abilities for a plan involving Battleworld. But the story of Battleworld is more complex than simply creating a new planet and trapping heroes there. Doctor Doom essentially built an entirely new world from nothing, and all the familiar characters we know grew up and developed into heroes or villains within that world.

These are all different versions of the characters. In one version, Doctor Doom marries Susan Storm and they have two children, Franklin and Valeria. Both children should be present in Battleworld, ideally with Franklin as a teenager. When the story concludes, Valeria should be the one to survive and rejoin the main Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Fantastic Four. She’d be established as Doctor Doom’s biological daughter, but raised as an adopted child by Reed and Sue. This would be a great way to introduce Valeria and her connection to the Von Doom family.

1) The Thor Corps

A highlight of the Secret Wars comic event in Marvel was the creation of the Thor Corps – essentially Doctor Doom’s police force, tasked with enforcing his laws. This concept offers exciting possibilities for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially allowing us to see many different versions of Thor, the return of Jane Foster as Thor, and the long-awaited introduction of Beta Ray Bill.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really excited about the potential for Chris Hemsworth to play multiple Thors – that would be seriously awesome! While I know Avengers: Secret Wars can’t include every character from the comics, I’m really hoping they bring in the Thor Corps. Their eventual turn against Doom is a key part of the story and would be so satisfying to see on screen, ultimately leading to his defeat.
