A popular survival thriller is currently doing well on Netflix, and two sequels are already planned. Netflix has a diverse range of movies topping its global charts right now. Over the past week, the new Madea film, Joe’s College Road Trip, has been the most-watched with over 10 million views. Other top 5 films include the Alien prequel Prometheus and both 90s Addams Family movies. KPop Demon Hunters continues to perform strongly, holding third place after an impressive 36 weeks.
I have to say, I was surprised to see just how popular “Fall” has become! While it’s just outside the current top 10 on Netflix, this 2022 thriller really made a splash when it dropped, racking up 3.6 million views in its first week – enough to land it at number six! And the biggest news? Apparently, we’re getting not one, but two sequels to this unexpected little survival movie. Color me intrigued!
Fall Getting a Pair of Sequels After Theatrical Success

The movie Fall is a thrilling survival story that addresses a current trend in filmmaking: relying on a surprising twist. Similar endings have appeared in films like 47 Meters Down and the classic The Descent. But Fall distinguishes itself with a compelling setup – two women stranded 2,000 feet up an abandoned TV tower – that made it a must-see on IMAX screens, delivering a truly dizzying and exciting experience for fans of the genre.
I was really blown away by how well this movie holds up even when I watch it at home. It’s a testament to the incredible filmmaking and performances, especially from Grace Caroline Currey, who you might know from Shazam! and Annabelle: Creation, and Virginia Gardner, who I loved in Marvel’s Runaways and Halloween. Critics seem to agree – it has a solid 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes! A lot of people appreciated how simple and direct the movie was, though the ending definitely surprised – and maybe even frustrated – some viewers.
Given its popularity, the film is getting two sequels. The first was announced in March 2023, and plans for a second sequel were revealed in October 2023. Studio executives hope to build a whole series of movies around this story. Whether they’ll succeed is still uncertain—the sequel to The Descent showed that it’s difficult to recapture the magic of an original film, especially when it comes to a surprising ending.
Scott Mann, the creator of the first Fall movie, will oversee the upcoming sequels and will direct the third one. The Spierig Brothers, known for their work on films like Predestination (2014) and Jigsaw (2017), and most recently Winchester (2018), are directing Fall 2. This sequel will feature a completely new cast and tell a separate story, rather than continuing the plot of the original film.
The new movie follows Jax, who is grieving the loss of her sister, Hunter. She bonds with Hunter’s adventurous friend, Luce, and together they try to overcome their pain by tackling a dangerous challenge: walking a narrow plank on Mount Kwan in Thailand. When a rockslide traps them high in the air on this precarious plank, Jax is forced to face her fears and fight to survive, hoping to find peace. Like the movie Fall, this one centers around the terrifying experience of being stranded at a great height.
