Look, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has definitely had its peaks and valleys, and a lot of fans, myself included, are really hoping the new Avengers: Doomsday movie gets things back on track to those earlier, amazing films. We’ll have to wait and see, of course, but it’s cool to see an actor who used to be a big part of the MCU getting another chance to shine in a new project after being let go from Marvel. It’s a nice comeback story!
According to Deadline, Jonathan Majors, previously known for his role as Kang, has begun filming a new movie – his first in four years. The project is an untitled action film being produced by The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend. Kyle Rankin, director of Run Hide Fight, is also writing and directing the movie, which is aiming for the feel of classic 80s and 90s action films like Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers.
This Will Be Jonathan Majors’ Comeback Attempt After Marvel Firing

Jonathan Majors lost his role as Kang the Conqueror at Marvel Studios in 2023 after being convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Since then, he hasn’t appeared in any new films. While his movie, Magazine Dreams, was released around this time, he had finished filming it before the assault conviction became public.
Jonathan Majors was planned to be the major villain for the next several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. He first appeared as Kang in the final episode of the Loki series, and then played a larger role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This was intended to launch a major storyline leading to future Avengers films centered around Kang.
So, the plans after the conviction fell apart, and that big Kang Dynasty storyline? Scrapped, completely reimagined. What’s really interesting is Marvel brought the Russo Brothers back to direct the next Avengers movies, and get this – they’re bringing Robert Downey Jr. back, but as Doctor Doom! Apparently, he’s going to be the next big bad for the MCU. It’s a bold move, and I’m genuinely curious to see how they pull it off.
This marks Jonathan Majors’ return to filming after a period since 2023. He’s also signed on to star in the upcoming thriller Merciless, directed by Martin Villeneuve, which was announced last summer, though details have been scarce. His latest project will be produced by Ben Shapiro and Dallas Sonnier, with Caleb Robinson, Mike Richards, Jason Ramos, and Majors himself serving as executive producers.
The untitled film currently has no release date.
