Fantasy shows usually need time to get going because of all the world-building involved, and even promising series can lose steam after a while. It’s rare for any TV show, no matter the genre, to stay consistently good throughout its entire run – most experience a dip in quality, either early on or towards the end.
It’s rare for a fantasy show to stay consistently good throughout its entire run, but some truly stand out. If you want a fantasy series that’s excellent from start to finish, these are worth watching – they’re consistently engaging. Whether you’re drawn into the conflict between Piltover and Zaun or exploring different worlds with Lyra Belacqua, you can expect a consistently high-quality experience.
5) Arcane

With only two seasons, it’s not shocking that Arcane doesn’t have any truly weak episodes. Still, the League of Legends series is remarkable – both seasons are nearly flawless. Arcane excels at storytelling, achieving more in its brief run than many shows do over multiple seasons. It presents a focused narrative that explores complex themes like class differences and corruption, all while maintaining compelling characters and a richly detailed world. While Season 2 felt a bit rushed and could have benefited from extra length, these are minor issues and neither season is anything less than strong.
4) The Legend of Vox Machina

Even though The Legend of Vox Machina hasn’t finished its run, the three seasons released so far are promising, suggesting it will remain a quality show throughout its entirety. The Mighty Nein spin-off is also exceeding expectations. Despite having shorter episodes, the Prime Video series successfully makes viewers care about its many characters and delivers exciting, complex stories. When the show slows down, it’s usually focused on character development, and the likable personalities make these moments barely noticeable. Like Arcane, it’s not perfect, but its flaws aren’t significant enough to ruin a season. In fact, The Legend of Vox Machina seems to be improving with each season, and we’ll find out if Season 4 continues that positive trend later this year.
3) The Good Place

NBC’s The Good Place is a unique blend of comedy and fantasy that somehow really works. The show consistently improves throughout its four seasons, never losing steam. It’s famous for a huge twist at the end of the first season, but instead of relying on that moment, the series continues to thoughtfully explore ideas about morality and what happens after death, always finding new angles. The characters become more complex, the show remains funny, and the ending is both heartwarming and bittersweet. It’s a truly excellent series, and it’s difficult to identify any weak points in any of its seasons.
2) Avatar: The Last Airbender

Even after more than 20 years, Avatar: The Last Airbender remains a highly rewatchable fantasy series – and for good reason, as all three seasons are fantastic. The first season takes a little while to get going, but it’s still endearing, humorous, and emotionally impactful as it sets up Aang’s story. Once it finds its rhythm, it’s consistently engaging, with only a few episodes that aren’t quite as strong – though even those are enjoyable. The second and third seasons are truly exceptional, offering some of the best television in the fantasy genre with memorable characters, thrilling action, and consistent humor.
1) His Dark Materials

Despite being a fantastic fantasy series, His Dark Materials doesn’t get the attention it deserves, especially after the success of Game of Thrones. It’s a show more people should watch! All three seasons are exceptionally well-made, which is a great reason to start. The first season immediately grabs your attention with its high quality and strong cast, and the series only gets better from there. Lyra faces increasingly challenging adventures in seasons two and three, and each episode ends on a compelling note, constantly building towards an even more impressive finale. While not flawless, all three seasons are consistently excellent.
