Will the Yellowstone universe ever see Kayce and Beth together again?
Spencer Hudnut, the showrunner for the new series Marshals, has discussed the possibility of characters from his show appearing in the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff focusing on Beth and Rip. Marshals will premiere on CBS on March 1st. The Beth and Rip series, currently titled The Dutton Ranch, is being filmed for Paramount+, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Hudnut said a crossover between Marshals and The Dutton Ranch isn’t currently planned, though it’s not impossible for the future. He has discussed the possibility with The Dutton Ranch showrunner Chad Feehan. For now, both shows will continue to follow their own storylines.
It would be fantastic if something were to happen, but I believe both shows are currently developing in unique directions.
The shows share a connected universe, and I think fans would love to see Kayce, Rip, and Beth together again. We’ll just have to see what the future holds. I actually see Chad Feehan, who manages the Dutton Ranch, quite often – he’s nearby, and we run into each other in the parking lot. We’ve talked a couple of times about what each of us is working on.
We’ll see if Kayce gets to see his sister again.
The final episode of Yellowstone concluded the story of the Dutton Ranch, with the land being returned to the Broken Rock tribe. But the show isn’t over yet! A new series, Marshals, will follow Kayce as he becomes part of a specialized team of US Marshals working to protect Montana from serious crime.
Unlike its companion series, The Dutton Ranch will follow a similar path to the original Yellowstone, centering on Beth, Rip, and their son, Carter, as they build a life and manage a ranch in Dillon, Montana. While the two shows will have distinct storylines, moods, and even air on different networks, their shared universe means we might see characters and events connect between them.
Currently, the creators of each show are concentrating on their own storylines, but they’re keeping each other informed about developments. This approach helps maintain a shared universe between the shows, but doesn’t make a crossover event likely at this time.
Things could evolve as these shows develop. Because they’re set around the same time as Yellowstone, we might see familiar characters cross over. While season two of Marshals isn’t confirmed yet, CBS has started planning with its writers, suggesting the show is intended to run for multiple seasons.
It’s probably similar for The Dutton Ranch, with both shows set to launch a fresh start for the Yellowstone universe. Although Marshals seems to be a standalone series for now, there’s still a chance Kayce and Beth could cross paths, as long as the creative teams behind each show stay connected and coordinate storylines.
