Shawn Johnson Responds to Rumor She’s Pregnant With Baby No. 4

Don’t get it twisted: Shawn Johnson East is not expecting another child.

Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East has confirmed she is not pregnant. Despite online rumors, she and her husband, Andrew East, are not expecting another child. The couple already share three children: Drew, 6, Jett, 4, and Barrett (nicknamed “Bear”), 2.

She posted on Instagram on February 26th, and a screenshot was captured by People magazine. In the post, she clarified that a previous message was spam and wasn’t from her account, then excitedly revealed they were expecting a baby, referring to their child as ‘BEAR!’

The video Shawn, 34, mentioned actually came from an episode of their podcast, Couple Things with Shawn and Andrew, that was released in 2023.

I’ve been following this story, and it’s a good reminder that things aren’t always as they seem online. This lovely couple, married since 2016, recently shared they were expecting their third baby. Shawn had mentioned in passing that this pregnancy was actually her fourth – she sadly experienced a miscarriage in 2017. Unfortunately, a clip of her saying that was taken from a larger conversation and shared on TikTok, leading to a lot of misunderstanding. It just goes to show how easily things can be misinterpreted when they’re taken out of context.

Shawn isn’t pregnant right now, but she’s still open to having more children in the future. However, if she and her husband decide to have another baby, she won’t be the one carrying it, as he comes from a large family and she’s willing to consider other options.

In 2023, she told TopMob News that she wouldn’t be having any more children. She expressed interest in helping children globally who are looking for homes, and suggested they could discuss that further at a later time.

Shawn delivered all three of her children by C-section due to their large size. She explained that while she feels grateful to have been able to get pregnant and carry her babies, three C-sections are physically demanding. She wants to be able to stay active and play with her children for many years to come.

Shawn and Andrew are definitely busy taking care of their three young children, all under seven years old.

The biggest challenge is getting each child the attention they need,” the podcast host explained to TopMob News in 2024. “It’s not about being overly dramatic, I really want to give all three kids my full attention. But with three children, you inevitably have to divide your time, meaning each child gets a little less one-on-one time than they might want.

Shawn explained that she and her husband, a former NFL player, always try to spend individual time with each of their children. However, she admitted it’s difficult, saying, “Sometimes it’s heartbreaking because I know one child, like Drew, is needing my attention, but I’m focused on another, like Jett, or vice versa with Jett and Bear.”

“I know it will average itself out,” she added. “But we’re still figuring out those logistics.”
