StudioCanal presents….March 2026
A.K. is a 2023 documentary exploring the life and work of acclaimed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. The film centers on the making of his award-winning film, Ran, which was inspired by Shakespeare’s King Lear.
Nikita (1990) is a thrilling classic film by Luc Besson. It follows the story of a rebellious young woman transformed into a stylish and deadly assassin, with a fantastic cast including Anne Parillaud, Jeanne Moreau (a BAFTA winner), and Jean Reno (known for his role in Besson’s Leon).
As a classic film fan, I always recommend The African Queen. It’s a fantastic wartime adventure directed by the brilliant John Huston, and it’s based on a novel by C.S. Forester. What really makes it special, though, is the chemistry between Humphrey Bogart – you might know him from Beat the Devil – and Katharine Hepburn, who’s amazing in A Lion in Winter. They play such an unlikely pair, thrown together on a boat, and it’s just a really compelling story.
Forbidden Games, a highly praised and moving 1952 film directed by René Clément, tells the story of two children who create a fantasy world to escape the beginning of wartime and grapple with the difficult concept of death.
Jacques Tati’s delightful 1958 comedy, Mon Oncle, playfully pits the charming Monsieur Hulot against the conveniences of modern technology. The film, which won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, humorously explores his struggles with these new gadgets and the changing times.
The Company is a thrilling six-part Emmy-winning series set during the Cold War. It stars Chris O’Donnell, known from ‘The Scent of a Woman,’ Michael Keaton, famous for ‘The Founder,’ and Alfred Molina, who appeared in ‘Abduction,’ as intelligence agents.
STUDIOCANAL Presents is available on Apple TV and Prime Video.
As a total movie buff, I’m really excited about this streaming service. It gives you access to an amazing collection of films and TV shows from Studiocanal – seriously, they have everything! They’re even doing beautiful 4K restorations of classics, plus all the award-winning favorites you know and love. And it’s not just the old stuff – they add new, exclusive content every month. To top it off, they have a monthly podcast hosted by actual film experts, which is perfect for someone like me who loves to dive deeper into the world of cinema. It really feels like a service built for true film fans.
