Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters confirms the Monsterverse is a major streaming success, topping charts on two platforms. While the new season immediately follows the events of Season 1, the story jumps ahead two years in the Monsterverse timeline – a purposeful move to connect it more closely with Godzilla vs. Kong. This time jump is explained by the fact that the characters Cate, Lee, and May were trapped in Axis Mundi, a strange place where time passes differently.
When the three of them stepped out of the Axis Mundi, they found the world drastically changed. Monarch had become a public organization over the last two years, a change that felt unavoidable after G-Day revealed the existence of the Titans. However, the way things developed wasn’t what anyone predicted, mostly due to the impact of Cate and May.
5. Kentaro Spent Two Years Working With Hiroshi

The biggest development for the character of Kentaro (Ren Watabe) happens after the events of the Monarch finale. He initially thought Cate was gone, but then Tim discovered a strange signal coming from the Axis Mundi. Although Monarch didn’t want to investigate, Tim left to seek Kentaro’s help – specifically, to be taken to Kentaro’s father, Hiroshi Randa. Tim was confident that Hiroshi’s ingenuity could find a way to bring Cate and the others back to the surface.
Kentaro and Hiroshi have worked together for almost two years, and the first episode of Monarch Season 2 shows Kentaro is much more self-assured now that he’s fully dedicated to understanding the Titans. He probably has a deeper knowledge of Titans than anyone else, which will be valuable now that Titan X is loose. His determination to bring Cate and May home has completely changed his life’s path.
4. Hiroshi and Tim Went to Apex For Help

Monarch had other things it was focused on, so Joe Tippett and Takehiro Hira turned to Apex Cybernetics for assistance. Apex is a well-known organization within the Monsterverse, having served as the main antagonists in Godzilla vs. Kong, and they have their own plans for taking over the world. While not exactly reliable, they provided Tim and Hiroshi with the money and power necessary to continue their efforts to bring May, Cate, and Tim back home.
3. Monarch Established a Partnership With Apex
It’s surprising to learn that Monarch and Apex once worked together, with Tim acting as the main point of contact between them. However, this relationship doesn’t last, as the two organizations become official rivals before the events of Godzilla vs. Kong. We’re likely about to find out what caused their partnership to fall apart.
2. Monarch Outpost 18 Was Built

Monarch has built Outpost 18, a high-tech mobile base that’s strikingly similar to the Helicarrier from the movie The Avengers. This is a smart move, as it’s ideal for tracking Titans that live in the water, like Godzilla, and will likely be central to their efforts to control Titanus X. The creator, Tim, seems especially pleased with Outpost 18, hinting that it’s a result of Monarch working together with Apex.
1. The Skull Island Research Base Was Established

Monarch and Apex built a new research facility on Skull Island because it provided better access to the Axis Mundi. Scientists had been testing the technology needed to open a portal there for a year, and Kong hadn’t interfered. However, the season two premiere of Monarch showed that he became aggressive once the portal was actually opened.
