Coronation Street favourite confirms future at soap with new contract and hopes for 40-year run: “If they’ll have me!”

Sally Dynevor, who plays Abi Webster on the popular ITV soap Coronation Street, has announced she’s signed a new contract, meaning she’ll continue in the role for the foreseeable future.

I just spoke with Sally Carman-Duttine at the TV Choice Awards, and she gave me some great news for ‘Coronation Street’ fans! She told me, exclusively, that she’s signed on to continue playing Abi for at least another year, so we’ll definitely be seeing more of her walking those famous cobbles.

She shared her excitement about renewing her contract for another year, calling it her dream job. “I absolutely love it,” she said. “It’s the best job I’ve ever had.”

The actress said she’d be thrilled to have a career as long and successful as Sally Dynevor’s, who recently celebrated 40 years playing her character on the show.

“If they’ll have me, yeah!” she joked, before opening up about the fan reaction to her character.

Abi is good at getting people to support her, but she often does unexpected things that frustrate them. I really enjoy playing her, though, especially when her actions leave everyone wondering what she’s thinking – it’s so much fun!

“She’s eternally flawed, I love it. I love when she just messes up all the time.”

Throughout her time on the show, Carman-Duttine has been involved in some of its most dramatic plots. These include her character’s struggles with drug addiction, the heartbreaking death of her son Seb, and a secret relationship with Carl while she was with Kevin.

She recently appeared in the popular crossover episode between Coronation Street and Emmerdale, called Corriedale, and hopes to see more collaborations like it happen again.

She felt it was a great boost, and the public reaction has been wonderful. She suggested that even a smaller version of the idea – perhaps a group of people getting lost and finding themselves at The Woolpack pub – could work well.

Carman-Duttine, who is married to her Coronation Street co-star Joe Duttine (who plays Tim Metcalfe), is also friends with several other cast members, like Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain.

She described meeting Myers as an instant connection, saying it felt like they’d known each other forever. They were introduced through a mutual friend, and now the three of them are close.

Abi and I met on the day my character learned about Seb’s death in the hospital. We didn’t talk a lot initially because I was very focused on the scene, and she was considerate of that. Despite that, we immediately connected.

I’m hearing great news for fans of the show – Rebecca Carman-Duttine has officially signed on for another season! She’s joining Tony Maudsley and Jodie Prenger, who have also confirmed they’ll be back as the hilarious George and Glenda Shuttleworth. It sounds like the core of this show is staying strong, and I’m really excited to see what they do next.

The actors playing the brother and sister on Coronation Street will continue in their roles for at least another year.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
