The ‘Two Masters’ downloadable content for Ninja Gaiden 4 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It costs $14.99 and adds new weapons, enemies, and levels to the game. A new trailer celebrating the launch is available to watch.
The new Two Masters DLC trailer offers a glimpse of the enemies players will face as Ryu Hayabusa and Yakumo. Both characters gain powerful new weapons to help them: Ryu obtains the Jakotsumon Serpent Gauntlets, and Yakumo wields the massive Solitaire scythe, which enables broad, sweeping attacks.
Just like the original Ninja Gaiden 4, The Two Masters is going to throw a TON of enemies at you. Expect really intense, bloody fights before you even get to the main bad guy. It’s going to be a real challenge taking them all down!
The Two Masters expansion not only adds new levels and story, but also introduces Abyssal Road mode. This mode unlocks after completing the DLC’s story on any difficulty. It’s a challenging series of battles – a gauntlet, really – where players can choose to play as either hero and face increasingly difficult enemies as they progress through the layers of the Abyssal Road.
The ‘Two Masters’ downloadable content was revealed in October 2025, just before the game launched. PlatinumGames’ Yuji Nakao and Team Ninja’s Masazaku Hirayama explained that the new weapons would give Ryu and Yakumo unique abilities and a wide range of gameplay options. The story takes place after the main game and features both characters teaming up.
Ninja Gaiden 4 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. We scored the game 8 out of 10 in our review, highlighting its excellent combat, smooth controls, and fresh gameplay features. We did feel, however, that the game’s levels lacked energy at times, and some fights became a bit repetitive.
This game introduces Yakumo, a new hero, and takes place several years after the events of Ninja Gaiden 3. He’s investigating a futuristic, cursed Tokyo plagued by the Rain of Darkrot. But before he can lift the curse, Yakumo must confront the Divine Dragon Order. The situation becomes complicated when it’s revealed that Ryu is allied with the Order, working to maintain the seal that keeps the curse contained.
Before the game launched, Xbox Game Studios, Koei Tecmo, Team Ninja, and PlatinumGames collaborated with master swordsmith Yuya Nakanishi and the Masahiro Tantoujou Sword Forge to create real-life versions of Ryu’s Dragon Sword and Yakumo’s Takeminakata. The video detailing this process also includes a look at the history of katanas, which first appeared around 900 years ago during the late Heian period.
