Avatar’s Fighting Game Would Be So Much Better If These 5 Characters Make the Cut

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is shaping up to be a standout fighting game in 2026. Recent beta testing showed players loved the unique characters, especially Toph, and the game’s innovative support systems and “Flow” actions. To keep fans of both fighting games and Avatar: The Last Airbender engaged, the rest of the character roster needs to continue this trend of creative design.

When Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game was first announced, it was clear the game would launch with a roster of 12 characters – a good number for an independently developed game. But with so many popular characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra, choosing who makes the cut has been a careful process. With seven characters already announced, the final five need to offer a mix of bending abilities and fighting styles to ensure each character feels distinct and special.

5. Ty Lee

Fans are already eager to see Ty Lee join the game, mainly because she doesn’t use any bending abilities. While Sokka is another character who doesn’t bend, Ty Lee’s fighting style in Avatar: The Last Airbender is unique compared to the elemental-powered martial artists we usually see. She practices “chi blocking,” a technique where she strikes specific pressure points to completely stop opponents from using their bending. Her attacks can temporarily disable limbs by targeting nerves and muscles, effectively preventing enemies from fighting back.

Ty Lee served as a key assistant to Fire Lord Azula and proved to be a formidable opponent in the original series, skillfully defeating powerful benders like Katara. In Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, her experience as a circus performer would likely translate to a quick and agile fighting style, making her an excellent rushdown character. Her unique ability to block chi could be adapted to disrupt opponents’ special moves, creating a truly innovative and unconventional fighter.

4. Bolin

Bolin is a natural fit for the world of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, but some might wonder why we need another Earthbender alongside Toph. Bolin’s Earthbending style is unique – developed through Pro-bending with his brother Mako – and focuses on accuracy and defense. This contrasts nicely with Toph’s more aggressive approach, giving players another distinct Earthbending option and creating a compelling character dynamic.

Okay, so Bolin’s really bringing something special to the table – he can lava bend! They unlocked that ability in Season 3 of Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and it’s awesome. Basically, he can create waves of super-heated earth, making the battlefield really dangerous for anyone fighting him. It’s a bit of a gamble, but I think this could be how he does some seriously powerful moves in Avatar Legends. It reminds me a lot of playing as Tremor in Mortal Kombat X – he was one of those DLC characters who totally changed up how you played!

3. Combustion Man

Combustion Man is a memorable character from the series – he’s the assassin Zuko hires to take out Aang and his friends. He’s a firebender who focuses his power through a tattoo on his forehead, creating huge explosions. This unique fighting style reappeared in The Legend of Korra with the villain P’Li, a member of the Red Lotus, who was even more skilled at controlling where her explosions landed.

Both Combustion Man and P’Li possess a powerful bending ability that makes them strong contenders for inclusion in Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. This skill’s inherent weakness – a loss of control when their third eye is targeted – could also be cleverly integrated into the game’s mechanics. Perhaps they could have a limited resource for their explosive attacks, with overuse causing damage to themselves alongside their opponents.

2. Zaheer

As a huge fan of both Avatar shows, I think Zaheer is one of the best villains ever created! He’s the leader of the Red Lotus, and it’s so cool that he’s an Airbender, just like Aang and Tenzin. What really makes him stand out is that he’s one of the only bad guys who bends air in either series. He shows a really dark and powerful side to airbending that’s totally different from Aang’s more playful style – Zaheer is much more focused and ruthless.

Now that Zaheer can fly thanks to his training, he’s able to copy the moves and styles of other powerful fighting game characters who also fly. Examples include characters like Magneto or Storm from the Marvel vs Capcom series, and Zamasu from Dragon Ball FighterZ. Because he already has the other members of the Red Lotus to assist him, Zaheer has a strong foundation for a unique moveset in Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game.

1. Amon

Amon, a villain from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, is a surprisingly complex character. Initially presented as a non-bender, it’s later revealed he’s actually a Waterbender. What makes Amon truly dangerous, though, is his incredibly rare ability to Bloodbend psychically. He can permanently block a person’s bending abilities by manipulating the blood within their body, and he’s also a skilled hand-to-hand fighter, allowing him to dominate opponents physically and through his bending.

Beyond Fire Lord Ozai from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Amon would be an excellent final boss for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, and a distinctive addition to the playable roster. His Waterbending style differs from characters like Korra and Katara, offering a unique approach to the element. Similar to Vega/Claw from Street Fighter, Amon’s gameplay could dramatically change as he takes damage, culminating in the removal of his mask and unlocking his full Waterbending potential.

While Amon’s bloodbending ability might be difficult to implement in a fighting game, his impressive physical strength could easily compensate. The most interesting characters to add to Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game would be those who use bending in unique, unconventional ways, creating fighters that feel fresh and different from the existing roster.

Okay, so I’m totally hyped for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game! I’m really curious who everyone thinks should be playable. What characters are you hoping make it into the game? Let me know in the comments, or we can chat about it over in the ComicBook forums!
