Following some leadership changes for the Assassin’s Creed series, Ubisoft has revealed what’s next for the franchise. This includes confirming the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a performance update for Assassin’s Creed Unity that will run at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, as well as providing news about the development of Codename HEXE and Codename INVICTUS.
Here’s the full update, via Assassin’s Creed head of content Jean Guesdon:
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is About to Turn One
Since we first launched, the game has gotten better thanks to new features and updates – and your feedback has been a huge part of that! For example, our recent improvements to parkour were directly inspired by what our most dedicated players and creators told us in both in-person and online discussions.
From all of us at Shadows, thank you for being with us! This past year has been a great learning experience, and we really appreciate your collaboration. We’re excited to build on this strong relationship and connect with you even more in the future.
Come Celebrate With Us on March 20
Join us for a celebration livestream on our official Ubisoft Twitch channel starting at 10 a.m. Pacific Time / 6 p.m. Central European Time! We’ll be showcasing our newest game update, and we might also announce the winners of the Parkour Challenge. Plus, we’ll have some freebies and giveaways during the stream!
As we reach this milestone, Shadows will be moving into its final phase of support.
We’re moving towards fewer updates as we finish up current projects, but we have a few more things planned! Our teams are also starting to concentrate on the future of Assassin’s Creed and what comes next.
So, what is next? You may ask.
Codename HEXE
We haven’t revealed many details yet, but our experienced team at Ubisoft Montreal is carefully crafting a new Assassin’s Creed game. It will be a unique and more mature story-focused experience, taking place during an important time in history.
As you may already know, I’ve recently been appointed Creative Director for the project, on top of my existing role as Head of Content.
We’re working hard to make our big plans a reality, so we’ll be a bit quiet for now. We appreciate all the excitement you’re sharing and look forward to revealing more when we’re ready!
Codename INVICTUS is Progressing Steadily With a Test and Learn Approach
Codename INVICTUS is a multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game where players compete against each other. It’s being developed by a team at Ubisoft Montreal with extensive experience from the For Honor game.
We know many of you are excited about this project! It is a new way to play multiplayer in the game, but it’s different from what you might have heard. We really value your feedback, and we’re looking for ways to involve the community earlier in the development process so we can create the best possible experience together.
The team is deeply enthusiastic about the game they’re creating, and their dedication helps us achieve our vision of expanding the world of Assassin’s Creed with diverse and engaging experiences.
We have several other Assassin’s Creed projects in development, including Assassin’s Creed Jade, each at a different stage. We’re also exploring ways to bring cooperative gameplay back to the series – we heard your feedback on that! Although we cancelled one project recently, we’re using what we learned from it to improve our future work.
We prioritize taking the necessary time with each project and launching them only when we’re confident they’re polished and ready for release.
As a huge Assassin’s Creed fan, I’m always hearing rumors, and the series’ motto – “Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.” – always pops up. But lately, some of these whispers seem more legit than others. I’m definitely keeping my eyes peeled to see what happens next!

Let’s now look at imminent updates!
Expect More News on the Netflix Live-Action Series Very Soon
After a long development process, the world of Assassin’s Creed is finally coming to life as a live-action series! You might have heard some news about the actors involved, and we’re excited to share more details with you soon—it won’t be long before we do!
We also care about continuing to support our older games. We understand how much these titles mean to our players, and they often introduce newcomers to our franchise.
And on this topic, we have a last thing to share…
On March 5th, a free update will bring a smoother gaming experience to Assassin’s Creed Unity on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, boosting the frame rate to 60 frames per second.
Many of you have been asking for it, and now it’s here! You can once again explore 18th century Paris and enjoy Arno’s parkour skills with improved performance on consoles. Plus, Xbox players can try out several Assassin’s Creed games for free during Xbox Free Play Days from April 2nd to 6th – it’s a great chance to experience Assassin’s Creed Unity running at a smooth 60 frames per second!

Thank you for being part of the journey.
As we finish this update, we’re excited to start including our most dedicated fans in the development of our projects.
