For over a century, Disney has been a leader in animation, creating countless beloved films. From the groundbreaking traditional animation of movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to more recent hits like Moana, Disney’s collection showcases nearly a hundred years of artistic and technical progress. Hulu recently added a popular Disney animated movie from the 2010s, but a major sequel is still unavailable on the streaming service.
Everyone agrees that Frozen is a fantastic animated movie, and it’s now available to stream on Hulu as of March 1st. The film features the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel as sisters Anna and Elsa, who has powerful and unpredictable ice magic. When Elsa’s powers accidentally cover their kingdom of Arendelle in endless winter, she runs away, and Anna sets off with Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf to find her. However, if you’re hoping to watch the sequel, you’ll need a Disney+ subscription. Frozen 2 earned $1.45 billion globally—even more than the original’s $1.28 billion—but isn’t currently available on Hulu.
Frozen Redefined the Modern Disney Animated Fairy Tale
As a lifelong movie fan, I’ve seen the ‘damsel in distress’ story countless times – a beautiful girl struggling, then saved by a handsome prince. But Frozen? It completely flipped that script! It wasn’t about finding romance; it was about the bond between sisters. Honestly, it blew my mind. The whole climax wasn’t about a prince saving the day, but about Anna and Elsa sacrificing for each other – that was the true act of love. And the women in this film? They’re strong, complex characters, just as capable as any of the guys. Forget the charming prince – Prince Hans turned out to be the villain, and the movie brilliantly poked fun at the whole ‘love at first sight’ idea. It really redefined what a Disney princess movie could be.
Beyond its clever take on classic fairytale elements, Frozen became a massive hit thanks to its unforgettable soundtrack – including the wildly popular “Let It Go” – a beautifully realized and enchanting world, appealing character designs, and a wonderful mix of funny and touching moments. The sequel, Frozen 2, was equally well-received, earning a remarkable 92% audience score. Frozen‘s enduring popularity shows no signs of slowing down, with Frozen 3 scheduled for release in November 2027 and Frozen 4 already in the works.
What’s New on Hulu?
Hulu significantly expanded its animated offerings in March. Along with Frozen, three classic Pixar films – Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and Toy Story – became available on March 1st. Beyond animation, Hulu also added several popular family movies like Firehouse Dog, Garfield, and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties.
