A promising indie game was revealed at the Xbox E3 2017 presentation, initially planned as a launch exclusive for Xbox One and PC. However, it faded from public view, leading many to believe it was cancelled. Now, after nine years, the game has reappeared with new updates and gameplay footage, and it still looks fantastic.
The game, called The Last Night, is being developed by Odd Tales. It was originally planned to be published by Raw Fury, but it’s currently unclear if that partnership is still active. It’s also unknown whether the game will launch exclusively on Xbox. If it is an Xbox exclusive, it will be for the Xbox Series X, not the older Xbox One. The original publishing deal may have ended or changed, but development on the game is still ongoing.
A New Update on The Last Night
Tim Soret, founder of Odd Tales and director of the game, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s traveling to San Francisco for GDC today. GDC, or the Game Developers Conference, is the biggest event for people who make games. It’s a great place to connect with others in the industry, make deals, see new games, listen to talks from leaders, and attend an awards show.
Okay, so I’m really curious what my buddy Soret and the team are up to at GDC. They’re not saying exactly what they’re looking for, but Soret put out a call for anyone in the game dev world – developers, platform holders, investors, publishers, even people from TV and movies – to get in touch. Honestly, the fact he’s specifically mentioning platforms and publishers makes me think they’ve lost their publisher and their deal with Xbox is off the table. It sounds like they’re starting fresh and looking for new partners.
Soret announced he and his game, The Last Night, will be at the event and shared some GIFs showcasing it. As you can see, the game’s visual style is still incredibly striking.

Soret also mentioned in the discussion that this situation is unlike anything he’s experienced, and that might be why it’s progressing slowly.
Soret emphasized the strength of their underlying technology, stating, ‘As a gamer, I can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything like this before.’
It’s good to see the game is still going strong. The Last Night was a highly anticipated indie title from the previous generation of consoles, and it definitely showed a lot of promise.
