Everyone is excited for the new Supergirl movie, which comes out this June. We’ve already seen a glimpse of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El in the trailer for the film, based on Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. And this week at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, even more footage from the movie was shown.
Although the preview footage probably won’t be released publicly – previews from CinemaCon rarely are – reports from journalists who saw it describe a scene that gives a clearer picture of Milly Alcock’s Supergirl and the large-scale adventure her story involves.
New Supergirl Footage Description
The scene opens with Kara on a spaceship bus filled with aliens. She playfully offers gum to one and asks them to stop smoking, then jokingly asks another if they mind sharing her space. When Kara checks if anyone understands her, one alien sharply replies in perfect English, questioning her intelligence. Soon, Kara overhears someone bothering Ruthye and explains that Ruthye accidentally offended the alien’s customs. They return to their seats, but the bus is suddenly pulled aboard a pirate ship. Kara warns Ruthye they’re being robbed. When a pirate demands the watch from Kara’s pocket, she hands it over. However, both she and the pirate notice Ruthye has drawn her sword. After the pirate takes the sword, Kara hints that she has a plan.
Kara attempts to trade a teleportation device for a watch and sword, but a fight breaks out. Weakened by the red sun, she’s injured. She asks the bus to take them to a planet with a yellow sun to regain her strength, but they can’t move without a working engine. Kara starts to repair things in a spacesuit, but the pirate throws her out of the airlock before she can put on her helmet. She appears lifeless in space for a moment, but the rising sun from a nearby planet revives her. Returning to the bus, she fiercely retaliates. A pirate shoots her with a laser, and she flies towards the sun, with the pirates in pursuit – a mistake for them, as her heat vision quickly defeats them.
The scene quickly cuts to a series of clips: Kara and Krypto leaving Argo City in an escape pod, Ruthye curiously asking about Superman, Kara playfully describing him as a nerd, and Superman (David Corenswet) cheerfully greeting someone with a “Hi there!” There’s also a brief flashback showing Kara telling a young Krypto that he makes a house a home. The montage concludes with Kara saving Ruthye from a spear and then using her heat vision to attack the thrower.
