Death isn’t always permanent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many characters who appeared to die – heroes and villains alike – have somehow come back, either through resurrections or clever loopholes. We’ve seen it with Loki (who faked his death and was replaced by a variant), Thanos and Gamora (thanks to time travel), Red Skull (due to a magical curse), and even Bucky Barnes, who didn’t quite die in the first place. In fact, Professor X has been killed and brought back more times than anyone! Given Marvel Comics’ history, it’s not surprising to see characters return, and many fans expect Scarlet Witch to be resurrected eventually. Now, the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again seems to be adding another character to this list. Please be warned: this article contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 5 of Daredevil: Born Again.
The fifth episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 shows the aftermath of Bullseye’s attack on Fogwell’s Gym and what seemed like Vanessa’s death. However, she didn’t die immediately, briefly recovering before ultimately succumbing to her injuries, which sets the stage for a dramatic season finale. This near-death experience brought back both Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Kingpin’s former right-hand man, Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore), who Karen Page killed in Season 1 of Daredevil.
Daredevil: Born Again Kills the Best Foggy Nelson Theory

It’s disappointing that Wesley and Foggy only appear in flashbacks. This episode focuses on the history between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, revealing how their past choices connect to the attack on Vanessa. We see how Wilson and Vanessa first met – they were brought together by Wilson’s fascination with a white painting called “Rabbit in a Snowstorm.” Wesley’s early death in Daredevil felt premature, though it did influence Karen’s character. Seeing him again was a nice reminder of what’s been lost, and the introduction of Arty Froushan as Buck Cashman has been a surprisingly strong addition to Born Again.
Foggy’s reappearance definitively proved he hadn’t actually died, despite earlier theories that Bullseye killed him on Vanessa’s orders. Some fans had hoped, like in the comics, that his death was a ruse orchestrated by the FBI to place him in witness protection. While it would have been a complex plot to pull off – especially since Matt believed he heard Foggy die – the MCU has surprised us with even more unbelievable twists. Instead, Foggy returns to help reveal the details of one of Nelson and Murdock’s first cases, a case that challenged their understanding of justice. This case forced Foggy to work with an abusive man from his past, despite his personal feelings.
The way Born Again presents justice is compelling. While Bullseye’s attempt on Kingpin’s life might seem understandable considering the larger events, it ironically supports Fisk’s argument against vigilanteism. The series cleverly adds layers by showing how Wesley’s death (caused by Karen, who believed Bullseye had no other option regarding Foggy) and the complex relationship between Foggy and Matt contribute to the story’s moral ambiguity. It’s unfortunate that we’ll likely only see more of Foggy through future flashbacks in Born Again Season 3.
I’m so excited about the new Daredevil: Born Again episodes! They come out every Tuesday night on Disney+, and I’m loving them so far. What are your thoughts? Let’s chat about it – come join the discussion over on the ComicBook Forum!
