Although a new Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie hasn’t arrived yet, fans of his unique vision for the character have something to celebrate.
Good news for fans of the detective! Prime Video has officially greenlit a second season of “Young Sherlock,” the prequel series exploring the early days of the famous Holmes. I watched the first season earlier this year and found it a surprisingly engaging take on the character, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where they take the story next.
Ritchie is set to direct the first episode of the new season, and while it’s not official yet, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dónal Finn are likely to return as well.
After the show was renewed, Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, shared that ‘Young Sherlock’ has a special quality. He explained that viewers aren’t just enjoying a mystery, but are becoming invested in the story of how Sherlock Holmes became a legend.
Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have brilliantly reimagined Sherlock Holmes’s beginnings, making them feel exciting, risky, and completely captivating. They’ve also presented a fascinating version of James Moriarty, hinting at even bigger things to come, and we’re eagerly anticipating Season Two to see what happens next.
In the first season of Young Sherlock, Fiennes Tiffin, as the young Sherlock Holmes, met James Moriarty (played by Finn) and became involved in a murder case. This investigation brought the two, who were already good friends, face-to-face with a worldwide conspiracy.
The first season featured a talented cast including Zine Tseng, known for ‘3 Body Problem’, Joseph Fiennes from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, Natascha McElhone of ‘Halo’, Max Irons from ‘Condor’, and Academy Award winner Colin Firth (‘The King’s Speech’).
Created by Matthew Parkhill, the series quickly gained popularity, reaching 45 million viewers in its first month on Prime Video. It’s now among the top 10 most-watched original seasons the streaming service has ever had.
