Marshals season 2 has a confirmed release window.
The new series, a spin-off of Yellowstone, follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he navigates significant life changes. This is the first Yellowstone spin-off to premiere on CBS. With 13 episodes and a mostly new cast of Marshals alongside Grimes, the show has already been a hit, leading to a quick renewal for another season.
CBS has announced its plans for the 2026-2027 television season, confirming that the second season of Marshals will continue to air on Sundays at 8 PM Eastern Time.
Created by Taylor Sheridan, who also oversees the entire Yellowstone universe, and led by showrunner Spencer Hudnut, the new series Marshals centers on Kayce Dutton. He leaves the family ranch to become a U.S. Marshal, bringing his skills from ranch life and a troubled history to the pursuit of justice throughout Montana. The job challenges him to balance his duties with the demands of his family and the emotional weight of his work.
The show gains its emotional power from the death of Kayce’s wife. We slowly learn that Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) has passed away from cancer by the time the series starts. This loss deeply affects Kayce and their son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), as they try to cope with the tragedy.
Okay, so it’s cool to see some familiar faces coming back for the next season! Apparently, Merrill is one of the only original cast members returning, alongside Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham – I’m really glad Gil’s back as Thomas Rainwater, he’s awesome. But they’ve also added some new blood to the mix – Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means are all joining the cast, which should be exciting.
Even though Monica’s death caused some upset with viewers, the show Marshals is proving to be very popular for CBS. Recent ratings indicate it’s likely to be the most-watched show of the season on broadcast television, and the most-watched scripted program overall, including viewers who stream it.
According to the latest Nielsen ratings, which measure viewership over a month, the show Marshals is currently second in popularity only to the fifth season of Stranger Things. Stranger Things has drawn 30.6 million viewers, while Marshals has 26.5 million.
The executive producers of Marshals – a group including David Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Spencer Hudnut, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Freidman, and Greg Yaitanes – have a lot to be proud of. Produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, Marshals is being renewed for a second season and is expected to be even more successful.
Marshals season 1airs Sundays at 8 PM ET on CBS.
