Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker joins new Netflix romantic comedy film from Ted Lasso favourite

Jodie Whittaker will star in the new Netflix romantic comedy, Office Romance, alongside other well-known actors. The script is penned by Bret Goldstein and Joe Kelly, both known for their work on the hit show Ted Lasso.

The movie was already set to star Goldstein with Jennifer Lopez, and Betty Gilpin from GLOW and Edward James Olmos were previously confirmed for important supporting roles.

Joining the cast are several new actors, including Jodie Whittaker, previously known for her role in Doctor Who, along with Bradley Whitford from The West Wing, Tony Hale of Arrested Development, and comedian Amy Sedaris.

The movie also features Mary Wiseman, known from Star Trek: Discovery, Roger Bart from The Producers, Rick Hoffman of Suits, and Jackie Sandler, who appeared in The Wrong Missy, along with other talented actors.

The movie is coming to Netflix on June 5th. Netflix describes it as a funny and playful romantic comedy about a hidden workplace relationship and the complications that arise when two dedicated employees fall for each other.

I’m really excited about this film because it’s directed by Ol Parker! I loved his work on movies like Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and the fun rom-com Ticket to Paradise with George Clooney and Julia Roberts, so I have high hopes for this one too.

Interestingly, Edward James Olmos and Jennifer Lopez will once again play father and daughter in this new film, a role they first shared in the 1997 movie Selena – nearly 30 years ago.

Goldstein described working on the film as surreal, saying he often feels like he’s in a prank situation when he comes to set and works with Jennifer Lopez and such a talented cast. He keeps waiting for someone to tell him it’s all a joke.

He added: “[It] hasn’t happened yet, so maybe this is real?”

Brett Goldstein is most famous for playing Roy Kent on the show Ted Lasso, where he was also a writer. He co-created the Apple TV+ series Shrinking and also appears in it alongside Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.

He also co-wrote and starred in the science fiction romance film, All of You, with Imogen Poots.

Recently, Jodie Whittaker has starred in the dramas Toxic Town and Frauds. She’s also soon to be seen in Dear England, a new series on BBC One about Gareth Southgate.
