Hideo Kojima Can’t Stop Watching Nippon Sangoku This Spring
I just finished episode 2 of “Nippon Sangoku,” and it’s fantastic! It’s a total winner. I was really surprised and happy to hear Jun Fukuyama and Kazuhiro Yamaji make an appearance. This anime is special – I don’t know what it is, but it even makes me start thinking with a Kansai accent!

Hideo Kojima is currently captivated by the anime Nippon Sangoku, which takes place in a future Japan devastated by war. The country has fallen behind technologically and is now split into three warring regions. The story follows Aoteru Misumi, a gifted strategist haunted by a personal loss, as he attempts to unite the fractured nation through revolution. The anime focuses on Misumi’s sharp intellect and his constant calculations to ensure success, while also offering moments of lighthearted humor that make it a truly enjoyable watch.
I’m completely hooked on this series! The second episode really digs deeper, introducing some fantastic new characters and building out this incredibly intriguing world with a perfect balance of drama and fun. What really grabbed Hideo Kojima – and me – is how it uses real Japanese history to create a story that feels so authentic and meaningful. It’s amazing how much the setting impacts the feel – Kojima even said it makes him naturally start speaking with a Kansai accent! That really speaks to how deeply rooted in Japanese culture it is, which is a huge draw for anyone interested in where anime comes from. And let me tell you, Studio Kafka’s animation is stunning – there are scenes that are just breathtakingly beautiful and unlike anything else I’ve seen. Seriously, this hidden gem, which you can find on Amazon Prime Video, is absolutely worth your time, especially if you’re a fan of Kojima or just love great anime.
