Electronic Arts has just launched a new update for The Sims 4 on PlayStation and Xbox, and it introduces a big change for players who use custom content created by the community.
Update 2.31 is now available for PlayStation 4! The biggest addition is the Marketplace, which lets players buy and sell items within the game.
As a Sims 4 player, I’m really excited about the Marketplace! It’s pretty new, even on PC, and basically lets creators in the Sims community sell their custom content directly within the game. It’s a great way to support talented artists and get awesome new stuff for my Sims!
When you visit the in-game Marketplace, you can explore Maker Packs and Kits. Buying one with Moola, our new premium currency, is seamless – it downloads and installs automatically without needing to restart the game.
We’re trying to simplify how players purchase and use content made by creators, but the changes haven’t been well-received.
You can no longer buy Maker Packs and Kits directly from the PlayStation Store. They’ve been removed from the store, so the only way to get them now is through the Marketplace within the game.
To purchase items in the Marketplace, you’ll first need to buy Moola, which is the in-game currency. You can buy Moola in amounts of 200, 500, 1,000, 2,600, or 5,500, costing between $2.49/£2.29 and $49.99/£45.49.
The new way EA is handling community-created content has upset many players and creators. They believe it benefits EA financially – by pushing purchases through the Marketplace and requiring players to buy in-game currency called Moola – but is detrimental to everyone else.
Now, console players will be able to enjoy a much wider variety of custom items created by the community, making their experience more similar to what PC players have.
The update also make a wide range of bug fixes, which you can peruse in the full patch notes.
