IO Interactive has taken back publishing control of its game, MindsEye, after ending its deal with Build A Rocket Boy. The studio announced in a blog post that self-publishing will allow them to be more nimble and directly address player feedback, ultimately letting them update the game more quickly.
I’m so excited about what Build A Rocket Boy is adding to MindsEye! They’re letting us play as this incredible assassin named Julia Black in a new mission called ‘Blacklisted’. Basically, we’re sent to Redrock City to take out two important targets, but it’s not easy – we’re dealing with threats from all sides. It sounds like we’ll be going undercover, messing with a dangerous operation, and really digging into a spy-thriller kind of story. It’s going to be awesome!
Arcadia is adding multiplayer races, letting players compete against each other. The developers will share more details as the launch date approaches. Plus, the Race Builder tool is coming to console versions of MindsEye later this year.
Last month, IO Interactive announced it was ending its publishing support for the game MindsEye. The company stated they are no longer involved with the game’s development, and as a result, the previously planned crossover mission with Hitman has been cancelled.
IO Interactive has ended its partnership with MindsEye, though they will help with the handover of ownership to Build A Rocket Boy. As a result, the Hitman mission planned for June 2025 as part of MindsEye will not be released. Both IOI Partners and Build A Rocket Boy understand fans were excited about this collaboration and thank players for their support.
Recently, Mark Gerhard, the CEO and CTO of Build A Rocket Boy, strongly reiterated his claims that MindsEye’s disappointing sales were due to corporate espionage and sabotage. He stated that those responsible for this sabotage are connected to the individuals targeted in the game’s Blacklisted mission.
Gerhard stated they have solid evidence and have been investigating this issue extensively since it began. They’ve determined who was involved and have turned the matter over to law enforcement in both the U.K. and the U.S., who are currently assisting with the investigation. Gerhard confirmed they will allow the authorities to handle the case, including any potential arrests or public statements, and will not be releasing further information at this time, allowing the legal process to proceed.
Build A Rocket Boy has experienced significant difficulties since launching MindsEye, including another round of layoffs in March. Studio founder Gerhard attributed these issues to “organized espionage and corporate sabotage,” a claim that sparked criticism from industry figures like Nic McConnell of Riot Games.
MindsEye is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Check out our review for more details.
