Christopher Meloni Reacts to Law & Order: Organized Crime Cancellation

This is Christopher Meloni’s story.

The Law & Order: Organized Crime star teared up while addressing the show’s cancellation on April 16.

Meloni shared on Instagram that the show Organized Crime has been canceled. He used the opportunity to express gratitude to the fans, thanking them for their support of his character, Elliot Stabler, and for welcoming him back to television.

He shared that he really enjoyed playing the role, calling it an amazing experience. He expressed gratitude for the nearly 17 years of career opportunities it provided, saying it exceeded his expectations.

This isn’t the first time Christopher Meloni has left a Law & Order series. He previously played Detective Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for 12 years, working alongside Mariska Hargitay as Detective Olivia Benson, before departing in 2011.

Ten years after his initial appearance, he returned to the Law & Order universe in the show Law & Order: Organized Crime. The series aired on NBC for four seasons, from 2021 to 2024, and then moved to Peacock, where it continued for another season.

I was so relieved to find out that SVU is coming back for another season! They announced it on their official Instagram – it said “Season 28 loading” on April 16th, and honestly, it made my day. I’m a long-time fan and couldn’t imagine life without it.

Fans were thrilled to have Benson return to the show, but deeply disappointed by the cancellation of Law & Order: Organized Crime. One fan expressed their frustration online, simply stating, “Justice for OC! Bring Elliot back!”

One fan expressed their happiness about the return of SVU but sadness over the departure of OC, hoping to see more of Elliot Stabler’s storyline in the future.

Fans were hoping to see Meloni reprise his role on SVU, particularly because the future of the relationship between his character, Stabler, and Olivia Benson is still uncertain. The two detectives have a long history of romantic tension, and Meloni has said he believes the perfect conclusion to his character’s story would be a relationship with Benson.

In November 2025, he told People that he believed both Benson and Stabler should retire. He said, “I think both characters, Stabler and Benson, should ride off into the sunset.”
