AMC and Shudder are teaming up again to bring back the horror anthology series, The Terror, for a third season. The show, which originally aired in 2018, is known for its self-contained stories set against historical and frightening backdrops – truly living up to its name. After a long break following its second season in 2019, The Terror is returning thanks to the rise of streaming, with a completely new story and cast.
A new trailer is out for the upcoming season of The Terror: Devil in Silver. The season stars Dan Stevens, known for his roles in Legion, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Cuckoo, and The Ritual. He plays Pepper, a working-class mover who is mistakenly sent to a psychiatric hospital. This role echoes Stevens’ previous work on Legion, where he also portrayed a character wrongly committed and attempting to escape.
The hospital is also described as follows in the terrifying synopsis:
As a film buff, I’m immediately hooked by this premise! It’s about a guy named Pepper stuck in a really messed up asylum – a place where everyone’s been cast aside and forgotten. He’s not just fighting his way out, though. He’s dealing with patients who are actively working against him, doctors who are clearly hiding something dark, and the unsettling possibility that something truly evil – maybe even the Devil – is lurking within the walls. It sounds like a total mind-trip where nothing is what it seems. The story suggests that to escape, Pepper has to confront whatever’s feeding off the pain inside New Hyde asylum, but the big twist is that he might discover the most dangerous demons aren’t external – they’re inside him.
Fans will be excited to see Dan Stevens take on another complex role, this time as a character struggling with his mental state. The six-part series begins streaming on May 7th and boasts a strong creative team, including Ridley Scott, who also executive produced The Terror: Devil in Silver. Chris Cantwell, known for his work on the AMC series Halt and Catch Fire, is the showrunner and writer. Based on the first trailer, the show promises to be a truly frightening experience for both the main character and the audience.
The new season of The Terror: Devil in Silver kicks off with a strong start, directed by Karyn Kusama, who also directed the Emmy-nominated series Yellowjackets. It will premiere on May 7th on both AMC+ and Shudder, with new episodes released each week. It’s remarkable how much streaming has changed TV production. The Terror hadn’t been renewed since 2019, but thanks to AMC’s expansion into streaming and its collaboration with Shudder, the horror series is back to deliver more chilling tales.
