Power Ranking The Boys’ 5 Strongest Characters After Season 5, Episode 3

As The Boys heads into its final season, expect big changes and surprising twists – including who lives and who dies, and shifts in power among the characters. WARNING: Spoilers follow for the first three episodes of Season 5. The show doesn’t hold back, with A-Train being killed off in the very first episode. Two new superpowered individuals are also eliminated in Episode 2, and Starlight delivers a brutal blow by killing Cindy in Episode 3.

Currently, the most powerful superpowered individuals in The Boys are still major players. However, the latest episode, Season 5 Episode 3, makes you rethink their positions on the show’s power rankings. The top five are all expected to be central to the upcoming final battle, and they’re all incredibly strong. But with Ryan back in the mix, Soldier Boy still alive, and Marie Moreau missing, some are now clearly more powerful than others.

5) Billy Butcher

Before, most people thought Butcher would win against Ryan, not because he was stronger, but because Ryan hadn’t demonstrated much fighting skill. That changed in Season 5, Episode 3 of The Boys, where Ryan showed he’s become a much more capable and aggressive fighter, though he’s still learning. Given that he’s Homelander’s son with all the same powers – and is now willing to use them, even if it means killing – he’s now a bigger threat. Butcher is still a top contender, though, because his relentless drive, strength, and unique abilities make him incredibly dangerous. He’s the most likely character from the main series to stand a chance against Homelander’s family. However, I still believe Marie Moreau from Gen V could cause the most trouble for Homelander and others like him.

4) Marie Moreau

Marie Moreau was second on our last ranking, and it’s still unclear if that’s the right spot. While she isn’t as physically powerful as characters like Homelander or Soldier Boy, her powers are incredibly unique and could potentially make her even stronger—we just haven’t seen it happen yet. Marie is the only character we know who can revive the dead, and she can also manipulate blood, which could strip others of their powers. Plus, being from Odessa automatically places her among the most powerful characters in the series. She has the potential to rise higher on the list, but the show seems to be focusing on other characters for now. If Marie can learn to control the substance that gives supes their powers through blood manipulation, she’ll quickly become a top contender. Currently, her abilities and long-range attacks are most comparable to Butcher’s.

3) Ryan Butcher

Following the third episode of The Boys Season 5, Ryan has moved up in the power rankings. We finally see him in action, and he manages to injure Homelander – something only Queen Maeve has done before. While we knew Ryan was powerful and could use his heat vision, this episode proves he’s willing to fight. Butcher believes Ryan is one of the few heroes who could potentially defeat Homelander, though he admits Ryan still has a lot to learn. The fact that Ryan survived a beating from Homelander and even landed a hit proves how strong he is. However, his youth and lack of experience mean he’s still not as powerful as Soldier Boy or his father.

2) Soldier Boy

Soldier Boy and Homelander are roughly equal in power. Soldier Boy can easily defeat other superpowered individuals, absorb their abilities with his energy blasts, and withstand most attacks. After the third episode of Season 5, many believe Soldier Boy is even stronger than Homelander because the V1 compound in his blood protects him from the supe virus that affects Homelander. He’s arguably the most durable supe in The Boys. However, Soldier Boy lacks Homelander’s influence and hasn’t demonstrated the ability to defeat him. They’re very close in overall strength – Soldier Boy excels at offense, while Homelander is better at defense. The situation could change if Homelander acquires V1 or Marie removes it from Soldier Boy, potentially altering their positions in a power ranking.

1) Homelander

After the third episode of Season 5, Homelander is still undeniably the most powerful super in The Boys. No one – not even Ryan or Soldier Boy – has shown they can defeat him, and Marie and Butcher don’t have a chance in a direct fight. Right now, the only thing that could stop him is the supe virus. However, if he manages to find V1, he could even become immune to it, solidifying his position as the strongest supe for the rest of the season and beyond. This consistent portrayal of his power makes him a truly terrifying villain. After all, the show is so compelling because Homelander isn’t easily defeated.
