Marvel Favorite Joins New Rambo Movie, Replacing an Iconic Actor as a Classic Character

Details are slowly emerging about the upcoming prequel to Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo movies. The film, titled John Rambo, will star Noah Centineo as the younger version of the iconic character, alongside Tayme Thapthimthong, Jefferson White, Quincy Isaiah, Jason Tobin, and Yao. It will tell the story of Rambo’s origins, before the events of the first film in 1982. Filming began in January and recently finished, and now there’s exciting news: a well-known actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has joined the cast in a key role.

David Harbour, known for his roles in Thunderbolts and Stranger Things, is joining the cast of the new John Rambo movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He’ll be playing Major Trautman, Rambo’s former commanding officer – a role famously played by Richard Crenna in previous films. Trautman is a crucial character who, in the original series, was the only one able to connect with Rambo and calm him down, eventually becoming a father figure to him.

Sylvester Stallone Isn’t Appearing in John Rambo (But He Is Still Involved)

It will be fascinating to see how the new film portrays the first meeting and developing bond between John Rambo and his mentor, Major Trautman, a key relationship throughout the series. However, some fans may be surprised that Sylvester Stallone won’t be acting in the movie. Although he won’t appear on screen, Stallone is still heavily involved as an executive producer, helping to tell the origin story of his famous character.

I’m really excited to share that I’m stepping in as an executive producer on this new origin story! I posted about it online recently, and honestly, I couldn’t be more thrilled. Get ready, because the action is definitely on its way.

David Harbour has several exciting projects on the horizon, in addition to his role as Trautman. He’s currently appearing in DTF St. Louis and will soon be back in major film roles, including Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian in Avengers: Doomsday and Nicomund the Red/Santa Claus in Violent Night 2. He’s also set to star in the upcoming film, Evil Genius.

Okay, let’s talk about Harbour as Rambo. It’s…a choice, right? I’m really curious to hear what everyone else thinks. Drop your opinions in the comments below, and let’s hash it out over on the ComicBook Forum – the discussion’s already heating up!
