An R-rated Nicolas Cage Western is galloping onto free streaming soon.
Nicolas Cage, the Academy Award nominee, has acted in many different kinds of movies since he became famous with his role in the 1983 film Valley Girl. He’s appeared in action films like Con Air and Face/Off, horror movies such as Longlegs and Mandy, comedies like Peggy Sue Got Married, science fiction films like Next, and fantasy movies like The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Interestingly, despite his extensive filmography, only four of his movies have been Westerns, and all of those were released within the last five years.
| Nicolas Cage Western Movies | |

| Butcher’s Crossing | 2022 |
| The Old Way | 2023 |
| Gunslingers | 2025 |
Nicolas Cage’s Western film, The Old Way, will be available to stream for free in just under two weeks. Directed by Brett Donowho and written by Carl W. Lucas, the 2023 movie follows Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger played by Cage, as he seeks revenge for his wife’s murder in Montana during the late 1800s. The film also stars Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Nick Searcy, Abraham Benrubi, Shiloh Fernandez, and Clint Howard.
Tubi is adding even more Nicolas Cage movies to its free, ad-supported streaming service! On May 1st, you’ll be able to watch Face/Off, Lord of War, and Snake Eyes. Then, on May 7th, The Old Way will become available. This expands Tubi’s already impressive collection of Cage films, which already includes over 30 titles like The Rock, Moonstruck, The Croods, Valley Girl, Peggy Sue Got Married, Color Out of Space, Matchstick Men, Leaving Las Vegas, Dream Scenario, and Honeymoon in Vegas.
Tubi just announced it will be streaming The Old Way for free, which is notable because the movie isn’t currently available on any of the major subscription streaming services, though you can rent or buy it from various digital platforms.
By making The Old Way available to more viewers at home, Tubi might be helping to bring attention to modern Western films. This movie, which quietly premiered in 2023, didn’t have a wide release – it only played in theaters in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Russia, earning just $60,000 worldwide. Critics weren’t impressed either, giving it a low 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite initial mixed reactions, viewers on the platform who were verified have given The Old Way a strong score of 70%, putting it firmly in “Fresh” territory. This suggests the Nicolas Cage film could become a hit on the streaming service. If viewers continue to enjoy it at this rate, releasing it on Tubi could generate positive buzz that it didn’t achieve during its original release three years ago.
