When Microsoft started making video game consoles with the Xbox, it quickly became popular and created several successful game series. While games like Gears of War, Fable, and Halo continued on later consoles, many other promising games never grew into full franchises. These games had potential sequels or spin-offs planned, but ultimately, they weren’t developed. Despite being good candidates for new series, they disappeared when the original Xbox was discontinued, meaning they never expanded beyond that one console.
1) Blinx: The Time Sweeper

Released in 2002, Blinx: The Time Sweeper was a unique platformer famously marketed as the “World’s First 4-D Action Game.” Players control Blinx, a cat on a mission to save the world and a princess. He uses a special vacuum cleaner, the TS-1000, to manipulate time – slowing it down, speeding it up, recording, reversing, or even stopping it altogether. Despite having a memorable character, solid gameplay, and a lot of potential, the series only got one sequel, Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space, in 2004. The Blinx franchise disappeared after that, but it would be a great candidate for a modern remake.
2) Advent Rising

Released in 2005 for the Xbox, Advent Rising was an ambitious third-person action-adventure game. It was intended to be the first game in a series, and was heavily promoted with things like a comic book. While it showed a lot of promise as a sci-fi title, it didn’t sell well, and Majesco Entertainment canceled plans for future installments, including sequels and a novel. The game had a number of bugs when it launched, and while it could theoretically be updated and re-released on newer consoles, that’s not likely to happen.
3) Phantom Dust

Released in 2004, Phantom Dust is a unique game that combines fast-paced action with strategic card collecting. Set on a ruined future Earth, it first gained popularity in Japan before finding a western audience and receiving positive reviews. Despite this, plans for a sequel were scrapped due to modest sales. A remake was also considered but ultimately canceled. Luckily, a remastered version came out in 2017 for Xbox One and PC, though a full sequel or expansion of the game seems unlikely now.
