The anime series One Piece is currently showing the Elbaph arc, with new episodes released as part of the Spring 2026 season. The latest episode features a fresh look for Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation. One Piece is just one of several popular shows returning this month, but it’s particularly exciting because Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hats, have finally reached the legendary island of the giants.
The One Piece anime is currently airing the Elbaph Arc, and it’s quickly become intense! Luffy and his crew woke up in a bizarre, blocky kingdom filled with massive animal enemies. They were recently forced into a battle, prompting Luffy to transform into his Gear 5 form. However, this time his Gear 5 look has been updated with a Viking-inspired outfit, complete with cool horns! You can see Luffy’s new Gear 5 in action thanks to a clip shared by @Leleo2211 on X.
What’s New for Gear 5 Luffy in Elbaph Arc?
All this for some giant animals

Okay, so Episode 1158 of One Piece was a blast! The Straw Hats are still figuring out this weird, blocky place they’ve landed in, and it’s hilarious because they all woke up in totally new outfits that fit the area. Luffy’s look is especially great – he’s rocking this helmet that reminds me of Elbaf! And it’s not just the clothes, either. When he uses Gear 5 in this arc, the transformation actually includes the new gear in his outfit, like that massive axe he’s been carrying around. It’s a really cool visual detail!
I noticed something interesting while watching the latest One Piece opening and now seeing the full reveal of Luffy’s new Gear 5 form. It looks like the Elbaph helmet has given him what appear to be devil horns! It’s a strange choice, given how much the series already plays with devilish imagery, especially with everything building up to the climax of the Elbaph Arc. It’s like his appearance is intentionally becoming more demonic to match what’s happening in the story.
What Does This Mean for Gear 5 Luffy’s Future?
The slight change in how Gear 5 looks now might not seem important, but it’s a positive step for Luffy and how he uses this form. It suggests that any new outfits Luffy gets in the future will also change the appearance of Gear 5. Previously, during the Egghead arc, Gear 5 always looked the same as it did in Wano, no matter how Luffy used it. Now, though, that’s starting to change.
The One Piece anime’s adaptation of the Elbaph Arc is looking significantly better than the original manga, likely due to changes made during the adaptation process and the anime team having more time to refine details like Luffy’s character design. It remains to be seen if this improved quality will continue throughout the rest of the episodes this year.
