Ted is making a comeback, and this original star has given a major update.
The Ted franchise revolves around a foul-mouthed, adult-themed teddy bear. It started with the 2012 film Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg and featuring the voice of Seth MacFarlane as the bear. The first movie was a huge success, earning over $540 million and becoming the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy at the time. A sequel, Ted 2 (2015), earned $216 million, and more recently, a Ted series premiered on Peacock, running from 2024 to 2026.
Mark Wahlberg recently told The Playlist that the animated Ted series is moving forward, which is good news considering the show’s future on Peacock has been unclear. Creator Seth MacFarlane hasn’t shared many details about the series.
We’ve already completed recording the first season, and it’s hilarious! The show centers around Ted, who has two kids, and honestly, we play some really terrible parents – but we own it. It’s raw, it’s edgy, and it’s definitely not afraid to push boundaries. You need comedy that hits hard.
I’m so excited for Ted: The Animated Series! From what I’ve heard, it’s coming to Peacock, just like the live-action show, and it’s actually a continuation of the stories from the first two Ted movies – the ones from 2012 and 2015. It sounds like we can expect it to premiere this year, and best of all, Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg, and Amanda Seyfried are all returning to voice their characters! Apparently, the animation style will be really similar to his other hilarious shows, like Family Guy and American Dad, so I already know it’s going to be funny.
Seth MacFarlane recently explained to Collider why he’s ending his live-action series Ted after just two seasons.
Ted Lasso is driven by its characters, and the biggest challenge to continuing the show is the cost of creating the animated elements. However, with such a talented cast and writing team, the series could theoretically go on for many seasons – there’s no limit to the stories we could tell. The appeal of the characters means people would keep tuning in, but the CGI is expensive.
Look, Seth MacFarlane clearly knows his way around funny animation – Family Guy and American Dad! prove that. But switching to CGI live-action with a talking teddy bear? That’s a whole different beast. Still, the good news is, Ted: The Animated Series is already in the works, so we won’t have to wait too long to see Ted back causing trouble on our screens. I’m cautiously optimistic, but the potential is definitely there!
You can watch Ted on Peacock, but we don’t know yet when Ted: The Animated Series will be released.
