DC Comics’ Absolute Universe has proven highly successful, offering compelling stories and fresh takes on classic characters. This alternate world, dominated by the villain Darkseid, is a place where evil reigns supreme. Well-known villains like the Joker, Ra’s al Ghul, and Veronica Cale are in positions of authority, oppressing the people. Despite Darkseid’s control, heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman have risen up to fight for freedom. However, not all heroes fared so well; many have been twisted by Darkseid’s power and transformed into dangerous villains.
DC Comics has often explored dark versions of its heroes, but the Absolute Universe stands out for its particularly inventive and unsettling takes on well-known characters.
5) Mogo

In the regular DC Universe, Mogo is a remarkably powerful and honorable planet-being, and a key member of the Green Lantern Corps. But in the Absolute Universe, Mogo is a terrifying cosmic monster. It serves as the base and most powerful weapon of the Blackstars, a cruel empire led by Sinestro who are determined to destroy anyone who stands against them. Mogo instantly destroys rebellious planets with a massive energy blast, functioning much like the Death Star from Star Wars. With its incredible destructive capabilities, Mogo could be one of the biggest challenges Absolute Green Lantern and her allies will ever encounter.
4) Zatara

While Zatanna initially seemed like the villain, it’s actually her father, Zachary Zatara, who poses the real danger to Absolute Wonder Woman. Like the Zatara from other stories, he’s a spirit and a skilled magician, but this version is a terrifying figure: a fiery, skeletal ghost consumed by anger. Believing Zatanna is dead, he sees Wonder Woman as the demon who murdered her and is determined to destroy her and anyone who helps her. He’s even willing to kill allies, as he did with Cheetah, to perform dangerous magic. In this dark universe, Zatara’s love for his daughter has been twisted, turning him into a monstrous force.
3) Robins

In a surprising turn, Batman’s former proteges – Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Duke Thomas, and Stephanie Brown – have been turned against him. After the Joker manipulated events to make it appear Batman killed Jim Gordon, a sinister plan was put into action. A billionaire, using the guise of a ‘Robin Program’ led by Deathstroke, trained these five young heroes into a highly skilled team designed to defeat the Dark Knight. Now equipped with powerful, heavily armed mecha suits, the Robins aren’t helping Batman protect Gotham – they’re his biggest challenge, all thanks to the Joker’s scheme.
2) Hawkman

Hawkman sees himself as a hero, but the reality is much darker. He’s a ruthless assassin working for the government, enforcing a broken system at the direction of Veronica Cale. He betrayed other heroes in the 1950s by falsely accusing them of being Russian spies and revealing their secret identities. Today, he eliminates anyone who threatens the established order. For example, he brutally attacked Green Arrow when Green Arrow tried to stop a sex-trafficking operation, and he even attempted to manipulate Superman into joining a villainous organization. Hawkman isn’t a protector of the innocent; he fights for those who exploit and oppress them.
1) Legion of Superheroes

Darkseid’s ultimate plan for the Absolute Universe has twisted the Legion of Superheroes into one of the multiverse’s biggest dangers. Instead of showing a hopeful future for the DC Universe inspired by Superman, this version of the Legion portrays Darkseid winning and controlling everything. Many Legionnaires, including Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, and Chameleon Boy, have become cruel villains, dedicated only to serving Darkseid and fighting against the entire multiverse. Their sheer numbers and incredible powers make them arguably the most dangerous villains in the Absolute Universe.
