Battlestar Galactica will finally be available to stream again.
From 2004 to 2009, Battlestar Galactica told the story of the last humans alive after a surprise attack by robots called the Cylons. Developed by Ronald D. Moore as a fresh take on the original 1978 series, the show earned critical acclaim, including 19 Emmy nominations, and is often considered one of the best TV dramas ever made.
Fans will be able to stream Battlestar Galactica again starting May 1st! The popular sci-fi series is coming to Paramount+ and Pluto TV. This marks the first time the show will be consistently available on streaming services after short appearances on Peacock and Prime Video, thanks to a new deal with NBCUniversal.
As a critic, I have to say the cast alone for this four-season show is incredible – you’ve got Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, and so many other familiar faces. The story throws you right into the action: humanity’s been decimated, and the remaining survivors are desperately fleeing aboard the aging warship Galactica, trying to escape the destruction of their twelve colonies. It’s a really gripping setup.
This story follows Commander Adama (played by Edward James Olmos) and Lieutenant Starbuck (Katee Sackoff) as they guide the last surviving humans, fleeing the relentless Cylons – some of whom now look like people – on a desperate search for the legendary thirteenth colony on Earth. After a long hiatus, this new installment of Battlestar Galactica will also explore other aspects of the beloved sci-fi universe.
Fans of Battlestar Galactica will have more ways to enjoy the series! In addition to a free, 24/7 channel on Pluto TV, the original 2003 miniseries that kicked off the reimagined story will be available. The follow-up movie, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, which premiered in 2009, will also be streaming on both Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
The short-lived series Caprica, which only lasted one season, will be available exclusively on Paramount+. Set fifty years before the original Battlestar Galactica (BSG), it tells the story of two feuding families and the consequences they face after a devastating event. The show starred Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson, Alessandra Torresani, Magda Apanowicz, Sasha Roiz, Brian Markinson, and Polly Walker, and consisted of 19 episodes.
There were rumors that Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot, was working on a new Battlestar Galactica series, but Peacock cancelled the project. We haven’t heard much about it since. However, with so many Battlestar Galactica episodes becoming available for streaming, both longtime fans and newcomers have plenty to enjoy.
