While no Star Wars series will likely surpass Andor in its political complexity, Maul – Shadow Lord is adopting a similar, thoughtful style – but focusing on philosophical questions, especially the contrasting ideologies of the Jedi and Sith. This is most evident in Maul, who pursues power for its own sake and believes it should be used to control the galaxy. He’s now attempting to instill this belief in Devon Izara, hoping she’ll use her influence to dismantle the Empire.

We’ve got Devon and Daki trying to stay alive after Order 66, and honestly, it’s brutal. With Inquisitors like Marrok hunting them, they’re forced to team up with someone unexpected – Maul himself. But it’s not a comfortable alliance. The story really tests the Jedi’s ideals, pushing them to the limit, and forces Devon and Daki to make some tough choices just to survive. It reminds me a lot of what “Andor” did with the Rebel Alliance – showing that fighting for freedom comes at a cost, and sometimes, people like Luthen have to do things they aren’t proud of to achieve a bigger goal.

Maul – Shadow Lord Is Also The Dark Side Counterpart To Rebels’ View Of The Force

The exploration of Maul in Shadow Lord is similar to how Star Wars Rebels delved into the core of the Force itself. Rebels provided the most detailed and comprehensive look at the Force in Star Wars history. Through Kanan Jarrus’ guidance, Ezra’s encounters with Maul and the Sith holocron, and even the mysterious Bendu, the series offered a complete understanding of the light side of the Force and clarified the Jedi’s approach to it.

The series Rebels greatly expanded our knowledge of the Jedi and the light side of the Force, and now Maul – Shadow Lord is doing the same for the dark side.
