The MCU Just Killed One Of The Multiverse Saga’s Best Characters

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 7.

The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 saw the loss of a promising new character within the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Although the Multiverse Saga hasn’t been perfect, it’s brought a lot of fresh faces into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both in movies and on television.

While some new characters haven’t been a hit with fans, the recent Daredevil: Born Again series did a great job of successfully integrating characters from other Marvel shows and introducing a fresh group of characters that viewers quickly embraced. Unlike the somewhat confusing reception to the Eternals, Born Again managed to make its new additions feel like a natural fit.

Daredevil: Born Again Delivered A Brutal End For Daniel Blake

Daniel Blake started as a minor assistant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, eventually becoming a trusted member of Wilson Fisk’s closest associates. However, as he gained Fisk’s favor, Blake found himself caught up in a dangerous world that forced him to compromise his own values. He did things like turning the news program ‘The BB Report’ into political propaganda and manipulating his friend, BB Ulrich.

Later on, Buck Cashman tested Daniel’s loyalty by asking him to help bury a body. Though Daniel was uneasy about it, he was determined to prove himself and went along with it. However, he was deeply upset when he found out that BB was responsible for a new broadcast called ‘City Without Fear,’ which revealed confidential information about Fisk.

After being betrayed, Daniel initially planned to expose BB to Buck, carefully setting up the confrontation. However, he had second thoughts and instead told BB to escape while he faced his friend alone. Sadly, Buck prioritized his own interests over their friendship, and Daniel was violently attacked, ultimately being beaten and shot.

Michael Gandolfini Delivered A Stellar Performance As Daniel Blake

Daniel Blake’s story in the Multiverse Saga is particularly compelling. He climbed the ranks, determined to work with someone he admired, Wilson Fisk. Along the way, he made some bad decisions and got involved in actions he shouldn’t have, but he truly believed Fisk could make their city a better place.

Daniel and BB formed a close bond built on mutual respect, despite facing challenges. They were able to see past each other’s imperfections and acknowledge their shared humanity. Although hurt by BB’s actions, Daniel understood she believed she was doing the right thing, and this understanding ultimately helped him accept her decision and move on.

Even though Daniel had previously seemed cowardly and easily led, he ultimately did the right thing by letting BB escape and accepting responsibility for his own actions. Although this choice led to a sad outcome, it showed a heroic side of Daniel and could have a significant, lasting effect.

Daniel May Not Be A Hero, But He Was One Of The Multiverse Saga’s Best Characters

Look, Daniel Blake was definitely flawed – he made some terrible decisions and did some awful things, no question. But what struck me was his sheer stubbornness, his refusal to give up on what he thought was right. A lot of the other characters, guys like Buck and Bullseye, felt like total mercenaries, just fighting wherever they were told, switching sides on a dime. They’d befriend or attack anyone for the right price. Daniel, though? He actually stood for something, and that made him compelling, even when he was at his worst.

Looking back, I think his decision to side with Fisk was a real mistake, but honestly, it was his strong belief in something – anything – that really drove him to act. It pushed him into situations he probably never imagined. But what I really admired was when he finally realized things were messed up, he didn’t back down. He stood firm, even against the very people he’d covered up crimes with before. It was a powerful moment.

Daniel is a remarkably strong-willed character, and for many reasons, he’s become a standout in the Multiverse Saga. His departure will be deeply felt in the upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again.
