Following the huge success of KPop Demon Hunters, it’s understandable that fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel. To keep interest high while fans wait, Netflix is releasing related content like collaborations and short videos. One recent example is a partnership with McDonald’s, which featured themed meals and collectibles, alongside the creation of several short-form videos.
These short videos are advertisements for McDonald’s, using popular characters from the movie, including Derpy and the Saja Boys. The newest video, featuring KPop Demon Hunters, revisits the main conflict from the Netflix film and points out a key issue the upcoming sequel needs to resolve. Luckily, the filmmakers have time to work on it and several options for how to proceed.
KPop Demon Hunters’ New Short Focuses on HUNTR/X vs. Saja Boys
The newest McDonald’s short for KPop Demon Hunters, called “Battle for the Fans Finale,” concludes the competition started in the previous video, “Battle for the Fans.” The bands Saja Boys and HUNTR/X each perform a song from the film— “Soda Pop” and “How It’s Done,” respectively—before HUNTR/X is declared the winner. This is a playful way to highlight the rivalry between the two groups, which is central to the story, and it’s a smart tactic for promoting McDonald’s special meal. However, the ongoing focus on HUNTR/X versus Saja Boys raises a key question about KPop Demon Hunters 2: what direction will the story take next?
The New Short Raises Important Questions About KPop Demon Hunters 2’s Story

The new short for KPop Demon Hunters is fun and shows a lot of energy, but it also makes us worry about the story for the upcoming sequel. KPop Demon Hunters 2 needs to find the right balance – it should feel like the original we love, but also offer something new. To grow the story and characters, and potentially become a bigger franchise, the sequel can’t just repeat the same plot. Simply revisiting the rivalry between HUNTR/X and Saja Boys would feel stale and doesn’t quite fit with how the first movie ended.
The competition between groups was a big part of what made the first movie so good, so the sequel can’t completely get rid of that element. This leaves fans wondering how the Saja Boys will be involved, what the new story will be about, and how the filmmakers can create a compelling conflict that feels fresh and doesn’t just repeat what we’ve already seen. It’s a tricky situation for the creators, but they can definitely move the story forward while still keeping the characters we love.
How KPop Demon Hunters 2 Can Move on From the Saja Boys & HUNTR/X Rivalry (Or Use It to Its Advantage)

The movie KPop Demon Hunters ends with Jinu betraying Gwi-Ma and making the ultimate sacrifice, offering him a chance at redemption. A piece of his spirit lives on in Rumi, but the fate of the other Saja Boys is unknown – they disappear after Gwi-Ma’s defeat, which makes sense since they were only on Earth to serve him as pop stars. While the film doesn’t confirm their deaths, fans are hopeful that Jinu and the others might return in KPop Demon Hunters 2. The first movie hinted at a deeper side to these characters beyond their demonic origins, leaving the possibility open for a future redemption story. This could allow them to reappear without taking focus away from the main storyline involving HUNTR/X.
One of the biggest challenges for a sequel is figuring out how to bring the characters back together and what will motivate them. Luckily, the world of KPop Demon Hunters has a lot of potential for new stories, so the writers could easily introduce a magical solution and a fresh conflict. However, it’s important to balance this with the series’ focus on K-pop. While another rivalry with old enemies might not be enough, the creators need to come up with a compelling new threat to the band and their music – ideally, one that also brings those original rivals back into the mix.
