Keira Knightley, Stephen Dillane, and Luke Thompson will star in a new stage play based on the award-winning German film, The Lives of Others.
The German film The Lives of Others centers on Gerd Wiesler, a Stasi officer tasked with monitoring a playwright, Georg Dreyman, and his actress partner, Christa-Maria Sieland. Initially a dutiful follower of the oppressive regime, Wiesler grows increasingly troubled by what he witnesses. As he observes the couple, he begins to sympathize with them and ultimately decides to protect them, betraying his original mission.
Producer Sonia Friedman has announced the cast for the play, which is based on the popular film set in 1984 East Berlin during the time of the Stasi, as reported by Deadline.
