Interested in a TV show based on a post-apocalyptic video game? It’s not Fallout or The Last of Us – it’s a new series called Atomfall, and production is officially starting with Two Brothers Pictures and Rebellion at the helm.
Atomfall, a BAFTA award-winning British game, takes place in 1957 within a quarantined area of the Lake District. It’s inspired by the real Windscale nuclear disaster, but with a fictional twist: the zone is now filled with bizarre anomalies, roaming cults, robots, and various groups all struggling for power and to stay alive.
The story, similar to the game it’s based on, begins with a character who finds themselves lost in a quarantined area with no idea how they arrived. While trying to escape, they encounter a cast of strange, uniquely British characters. The narrative blends elements of classic science fiction, eerie folk tales, ancient myths, and the anxieties surrounding nuclear threats in the 1950s.
If you enjoy the eerie and unsettling atmosphere of authors like John Wyndham, or classic sci-fi and horror shows such as The Wicker Man, Quatermass Experiment, and early Doctor Who, you’ll quickly feel comfortable in the strange world of Atomfall.
During a preview, we at TopMob Gaming were really struck by Atomfall’s interesting detective-style gameplay. Our review highlighted how it creates a unique atmosphere, almost like a blend of the cozy world of Postman Pat with the darker settings of Stalker and Fallout.
I’m really excited about the adaptation! The writers and executive producers, Henry and Jack Williams from Two Brothers Pictures, said ‘Atomfall’ has a very unique British feel to it, and they’ve loved working on it with the team at Rebellion. It’s extra special because, like them, the founders of Rebellion – Jason and Chris Kingsley – are brothers too! It’s cool seeing two sets of brothers collaborating on this project.

Jason and Chris are thrilled to adapt their game, Atomfall, for television. They’re excited to be working with Two Brothers, as Harry and Jack clearly understood and loved the game, even sharing their ideas for how it could end while playing.
Henry and Jack Williams, award-winning creators of shows like Fleabag and The Tourist, are known for consistently delivering high-quality television.
Rebellion, a company established in 1992, is famous for its popular Sniper Elite video game series, enjoyed by over 50 million players globally. They also publish the 2000 AD comic book, where iconic characters like Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper originated.
